I believe it is in Auburn's best interest to part ways with Gus.

However, there is no reasonable way you can suggest a coach that goes 8-5 with loses to top 10 teams in bama, uga, LSU (road) and a top 12 team in Florida (road) plus a bowl loss to a ranked team. That includes a win over a top 10 team in Oregon.

Of course that's the worst case scenario. It could be 9-4 with a win over a top 10 team in bama or a highly ranked bowl team.

It also could be 10-3 with a win over top 10 bama and a highly ranked bowl team.

Any other argument is irrelevant.

We are stuck with Gus.

I've grown to hate the "look at the schedule" argument.

Every year we play LSU, UGA, Bama, A&M...then we typically have a decent OOC. Our schedule is hard EVERY YEAR.

If we hadn't had a great defense, we are likely looking at 6-6 or 7-5. But i hate hypotheticals too.

What you said is fact. Also fact is that his overall record against those teams is abysmal and our offense is inept. We relive groundhog day every Saturday it seems when we face decent competition

That would be a disaster hire. I like Steele as much as anyone but he isn’t HCing material. He would turn our program into Arkansas in a season.

Steel (or anyone else) = new offensive hope.

Gus = same offense

I’ll take my chance on new

I think this is pretty accurate, with a couple of exceptions. Not that bad over almost 7 seasons, and certainly better than either of his predecessors.

It's him dropping the games we "could have" won that gets me. Three examples of that this year already.

The fact that people on here have even mentioned Rhett fk’n Lashlee as Auburn’s HC blows my mind!! Why would we hire Gus Jr? Stupid! If we’re finally gonna part ways with the booger eater that we have now, we should completely move on from these soft arse, weak type individuals, and get a hard nosed defensive minded coach who can adapt on offense. Definitely don’t recycle Gus protégés like RL or Chip Lindsey (wtf?)... come on people!
If we’re going to hire another offensive minded coach that’s fun, throw the good ol boy, Auburn Creed type playbook out the window and let’s go get Kiffin! Talk about recruiting.... talk about giving Saban fits 365 days a year,... that’s your guy!

Would you accept Steele as HC IF, he had Joe Brady as OC?

Joe Brady is a "passing game coordinator" and has never been an OC. He's got a Heisman contender QB and ridiculous talent at receiver.

I'm not saying he won't be an OC someday, but I think he's a little shiny right now. Wait to see what happens without Burrows.

I understand your point but Joe Brady took an offense that had most of the same players last year and was mediocre and turned them into the best offense in college football. He deserves all of the accolades he is getting

No doubt, but I'm not sure he's ready for an OC roll was my point.

OSU has the best offense in CFB, but yes it’s quite a turnaround to be as prolific as LSU has been this season.

However, if OSU’s defense is legit #1, LSU will lose that game because their defense is shite. OSU has the firepower to outscore them.

I think Brady actually could roll as an OC. He is also the one that elevated WR play with prescribed workouts when he arrived.

So bc I think that hiring Rhett Lashlee is an asinine idea and that it would be the most JABA thing EVER along with the fact that I used some off color adjectives that have obviously made you "feel" some kind of way, I have poor communication skills? Gotcha chief.
Anyway, anyone advocating for such nonsense, is in fact, like I said, STUPID! Sorry if you are one of them.

In my eyes we should be able to get any coach that is ready for the spot light. We provide the toughest job in college coaching, but the great opportunity to be game of the week for a handful of games each year. If a coach wins at Auburn, they can become a star.

Great article on Gus having the toughest job:

I was arguing more from the perspective of money and money people. They aren't looking for a reason to dump a ton of money out of their banks.
