Yes, the sky is falling.

However do we need to prop it back up with dead wood?

In an effort to keep the recruiting thread free of so much clutter I'll toss this out here. With little more than spring camp and some video does the staff really know how deep the holes are? And coupled with being new kids on the block how can you make up for personal contact without putting in the time. So while I'm not thrilled having so few commits it may be a blessing later on.

I'm of the mind that given the late entry into the market we'll likely go wild with JUCo's and trying to form relationships with this years newfound talent as they are discovered. Toss in a flip or two and we'll look a lot better... it'll just take a while.

(etc: so much =/= some much)

Ive decided that im not going to worry about recruiting this year. This is the first recruiting class and it needs to set the tone for what they want the program to look like. You can't take chances with the culture that is trying to be established. A class of high quality young men willing to put in work is exactly what we need to switch over from Malzahns laid back approach.

So the goal post move again…

Are you trying to say Gus didn’t bring in high quality young men? Or they didn’t work hard? We would outlast almost every team every year on conditioning. Kinda goes against the narrative.

I’m willing to give Harsin a chance but I will also call out what I see. If this class is done then he better bring a top 3 nationally class in next year to have a shot at competing in years 4-5. Auburn isn’t a place it takes 6-7 years to build a team. Y’all act like we are fricking Iowa State or some crap.

I think we’ll have 11ish total commits by start of the season which is probably half or over half of the total we’ll take considering the transfer numbers that are in play

And to your point, the staff definitely wants kids to visit in the fall to see the product and experience game day. It’s a huge selling point.

Doesn’t make up for the fact we’ve lost some guys we wanted but the volume isn’t a concern right now knowing the guys we expect to see on board by the beginning of the season. But if we start missing on those guys it’s becomes concerning to me, IMO

When Harsin was hired the on the field chops were there for me, but I was instantly terrified as to whether not he could recruit over here. That’s a non negotiable part of being good in this league. It IS still early, but the early returns look bad, plain and simple.

. . . . and a Grad Transfer or two.

Not to say this is optimal, but I'm not going to whine and cry because we aren't getting our way, or that the bar is any higher or lower (yet).

TBH if we go out and play sound, well-coached football and lose some games because we just don't have the athletes - well, that'd be kind of refreshing. At least then I'd know there was a problem that could be fixed.

It's more frustrating to take top 12ish talent every year and do ineffective things play after play, game after game and see so many athletes with promise fade into obscurity

1. Inside zone a million times in a row after a first down to the near hash.
2. Notre Dame box with spinning pirouettes
3. Orbit motion double reverse, pitch back, go route.
4. Four Verticals over and over.
5. 50 bubble screens per game.
6. Using timeout before first offensive play of second half.
7. Never using the tight end.

I'm unreasonably excited about AU using the TE this year. That's also a position oft overlooked and I think we can recruit well there. As in really well.

Gus had highly ranked classes with huge holes. They looked good rankings wise but most had glaring weaknesses. How many of his highly ranked guys worked out? We had and have skill talent but without an OL we know our ceiling is mediocre. We all want to get five stars but how many did Gustavo pull?

Some people on here were fine with taking 22 CBs and TEs each class and going 8-4 every year.
