Seems like we have some guys still on the Gus Bus. So what they are saying is they are going to miss 4 game Gus, followed by a mid season surge, then a late season flop losing to our 2 rivals annually, and cap off the season with a embarrassing bowl performance.

Never said I have inside information, but old men have knowledge also, it is not reserved for millennials, GenX and GenZ. If we are competing with UGA, Bama and LSU from a $$ standpoint and getting these results, then we are 100% screwed.

I dont see that. Just a lot of guys who still like posting about Gus, his issues and trying to blame everything from the poor recruiting to Y2K on him.

Its fun to watch though. Its more the Gus haters than the Gus Bus folk

You should stick around. Your insight is ALWAY so spot on. We need it

I liked Gus and didn't think he deserved to be fired. But I like Harsin as well. Bowden, Tubs and Chizik (or Saban) didn't come out swinging haymakers in recruiting, so I can be patient there.

Gus had a bunch of issues particularly with roster management, but I always thought he was correcting those over time. Not fast enough for those who cut the checks however. He'd have shallow depth at specific positions often on offense. Once Steele came in and replaced Johnson it never really happened on D. First, it was HB/TE or WR, then the QB room was never deep. The obvious one for most people is the OL. But my thoughts were he was addressing the imbalances, slowly. We had one legitimate SEC QB last year. We had 5-7 SEC OL who could at least run block, so I always saw the QB room as the larger issue. If Nix went down we may have won 3 games last year. The QB room is still not great. We have two SEC talents. (edit) Three with the short QB from Texas. He just seems to know what he's doing already from the spring game, and he throws a great ball. His only knock is size and Bruce Pearl overcomes that consistiently. He's had to recruit tweeners and small guards. No reason AU football can't do the same intermittently. I don't think Bobo and Harsin would have recruited the kid, but from comments they seem to be impressed. Some kids are just winners.

If you count 2007 as Saban's first class at Alabama you have to count this past year's class at Auburn as Harsin's first class.

Saban first class 12th in the nation (Shula Saban Mix)
Harsin first class 19th in the nation (Harsin Gus Mix)

Saban second class 3rd in the nation 1st in SEC
Harsin currently 77th in the nation 14th in SEC

Yeah I can see the same trajectory

Granted I will give you we are in the middle of this cycle. I am expecting to finish around 27th and 8th in the conference. So not comparable at all to Saban or any of the Auburn coaches you listed. This will be by far the worst recruiting class since Dye came to Auburn

To expand further on this Bama signed 16 players higher rated in Saban's second year then our top rated commit this year. And 22 players rated in the Top 300. Harsin has 1 since he's been at AU. 2 if you count Dylan Brooks which really wasn't a recruiting win.

This was not an issue when Garner was the recruiting coordinator. After they took that from Garner then the holes started to appear.

Let's maybe compare when all the bullets are fired in February. Unless there's an alumni mutiny like with TaterTot, we'll be fine. Probably 15-20 with a first year staff.

There's no problem signing 20.

(just the twenty you want)

And they still don't know who they need.

We are talking Ranking. I'm saying final ranking for the recruiting class will be 27th nationally and 8th in the conference. Alpine is saying we will be between 15-20 nationally.

However speaking of number of players we will probably get around 20ish would be my guess to save some space for transfers or players in the next cycle.

I guess I don’t remember Saban having to deal with so many recruiting restrictions coming into Bama like Harsin did coming into Auburn.

I guess there could have been a pandemic in 2007 but my memory can fail me at times.

By the way, I have no interest in comparing the two. It’s a stupid game.

In Corches defense, Saban was also not able to pay players legally back then like Harsin can. Even though he did it anyway
