hat has no substance. Just reporters expressing an opinion for their subscribers. We cant spend 35 MM to move Gus. After next year, the tag will drop to 20-25 MM and we will offer a lump sum around 12. For those thinking Gus is gone this year, you are just setting yourself up for disappointment.

The buyout this year is roughly 26 million, 13 million up front (I understand that money has been raised). We then pay him the rest over 5 years (2.6 million a year).

Next year that drops to 21 million, but you pay his salary (Total 28 Million).

Cost money to wait.

If he survives this season then he’s here for 2021, IMO.

Are we still paying Chizik's buyout or is it paid in full?

I get it, but you're paying a new coach and buying out assistants.

Here's the real scenario, which is Auburn as hell:

1 - Auburn beats an undermanned Alabama team, getting to 9-3. The media and our rivals will just view it as a situational thing because Alabama is in turmoil, and it probably is. But it clearly insulates Gus - nobody is firing a coach with 9 wins and a win over Alabama. Nice win for our seniors, though (seriously).

2 - We win some bowl game and get to 10-3. Gus is obviously safe, and will get a pass for 2020.

3 - We go 8-4 next season, losing to all 3 rivals. Gus isn't on the hot seat though because he's a 10 win coach. He enters 2021 legitimately on the hot seat.

I'll be 100% honest after that complete shite show Saturday we could beat Bama by a 100 points and I still want him gone. He is a terrible terrible offensive coach. He is predictable and stubborn and I blame him not Nix. PERIOD

Look if we beat Bama he should get to stay, period. But I've watched our offense enough this year to know that ain't gonna happen.

Waive the buyout and push him to Arky ir fire him if that doesn't work.
***Option #1 Fire every offensive coach with the possible exception of Cadillac promote Steele to HC and Williams or Garner to DC. Hire an up and coming OC and let him hire his assistants. This should be the cheapest option.
***Option #2 Leave the D where it is and hire an offensive minded up and coming HC to bring in his group.

With all due respect bullshite. We need to stop relying on beating Bama to save mediocre coaches.

He had to win the Georgia game this year for me. That was a must win. Florida and LSU on the road I can let slide with a tFR QB, but another loss to a Georgia team that isn't very good is too much for me to take. Dude has to go.

I don't think Alabama has much to do with what should happen with Gus.

Now the practical consideration is that we would look moronic firing a 9-3 coach and going bankrupt doing it. So it won't happen. But it's not because Gus earned anything via the Iron Bowl.

I'm starting to really get on board with the idea of promoting Steele and going out and hiring an actual offensive coordinator. I don't know if we could get Steele to agree to that though.

Unless we get absolutely destroyed by Alabama and money people decide they are embarrassed, Gus isn’t getting fired this year.

If Gus really wanted to go to Arkansas, and Arkansas offered him a similar contract (including buyout terms), then that is the only plausible way (other than embarrassment exception noted above) Gus is not coaching Auburn next year. I doubt Arkansas is coming with that kind of money, and if they aren’t why would Gus do it? Nobody wants to move to Arkansas so bad they turn down perhaps 10s of millions of dollars guaranteed

Is this strictly b/c of the contract that you base this on that we keep him until we reevaluate him in 2021?

And I guess not making a change in 2020 is b/c the PTB will use the excuse that he plays Alabama/GA away again?

Not just due to beating Bama, but 9-3 with a really difficult schedule and possible 10 win season despite freshman QB? You can't fire a coach after that. The optics would be difficult to overcome.

I'm over Gus btw, just being real about this. Easy to suggest he has no chance of turning it around from the couch but still would be viewed as insane to pull the trigger on firing him after a top 10 finish.

There is a poster over at 247 claiming that Gus is done and will be let go before the IB...

...take it with a big grain of salt.
