A new HC would breathe SOOOO much fresh air into the program. Especially if we can keep the D in tact.
Anyone who thinks firing Gus could be in any way a negative is completely fricking retarded.

Coach Steele (CS) CKS:
Knew his head coaching record was bad, but did not realize it was 9-36 bad at Baylor... that is bad... 1 conference win in 4 seasons.

Hire Billy Napier from ULL... and keep the defensive staff in place.

Agree. We've been clinging on to Malzahn for a decade going way back to 2009 when he was hired as the OC. He left us for one season, and despite no one else interested in hiring him as an HC, Auburn went after him. the only reason we hired him was because he was a moderately successful OC here. When he had Cam, we beat everybody. When he didn't, we lost to our rivals (badly). Now that he's the HC, nothing has changed. The programs needs a hard reset.

In 2009 Gus lost to his rivals with Chris Todd...barely.

You can claim that. However, in 2011 we got smoked by all 3.

LSU was 31-3 until the final play of the game when Neil Caudle (!) scored as the defense was walking off the field.
Plus we got hammered by Arky (coming off a 4-8 season) and blew a 4th quarter lead to Kentucky in Jordan-Hare when we scored only 14 points.
quote:Also got boatraced by Arky again, but somehow managed to slip by SCarolina and UF despite scoring 16 and 17 points respectively.
However, in 2011 we got smoked by all 3.
But that was when we were blaming Chiz for our offensives struggles. Amirite?

Pretty clear in retrospect that 2011 was exactly what Gus is able to produce against top competition without an elite running QB (maybe 2017 excepted).

I agree.

No Auburn coach can sustain a 6-15 record against LSU, Georgia and Alabama
We also don't invest in our program like these schools do. It doesn't matter who the coach is if we don't invest and the program in order to recruit the type of athletes we need to recruit. And speaking of recruiting, Kirby, Coach O, and Saban shoot dirty pool. It's time we do so as well.

Yeah, we are really going to attract players and coaches when we as fans abandon the program when it isn’t going our way. That will show them by golly.

PAM chiming in... (Does he read our board)
what matters most now is getting all the facets of Auburn football pulling in the same direction. Doing that starts with the head coach............does not come naturally for him. It’s not OK when he’s losing 4-5 games a year.
Auburn beat two No. 1 teams and went to the SEC Championship Game in 2017 with Chip Lindsey calling the plays, but in 2018, Malzahn was involved again.
Last December, there was a move by powerful boosters to make a change. They almost pulled it off,
Assistant coaches became frustrated by Malzahn’s insistence on controlling everything on offense, from who is recruited, to who plays and how much at every position, to even what drills are run. Some left. Some were asked to leave. Their unhappiness did not stay within the walls of the athletics complex. The defense was great. The offense was great against bad teams, not so great against good teams.
It’s up to powerful people.... If they don’t get it right and get Auburn people together again, Auburn football could find itself in a dark place... (Well earlier he said Gus cannon unite).

Everyone should have abandoned Gus in 2015.
I think the fanbase has done well to hang in there this long with that goober at the helm.

Who is really in charge at Auburn now? Forever it was Lowder, Is it Harbert or Yellawood?

All of this talk is goofy. I know there are some heavy hitters who lurk here, but for the most part, none of you on this board are paying anything...for this coach or the next one or the next.
The fact is that Gus is an "Offensive Genius" who can't generate Offense. I can promise you that there are some of the PTB that don't wake up every day and measure their success solely by the Iron Bowl. They've got their sights on bigger things. 2010 gave them a taste and now they want more.
