Enjoy it while you can. At 51 i have to be selective about when i do any sprinting. I played some flag football 2 weeks ago against a bunch of 20 year olds and it took me about 4 days to get the spring back in my step. 95% of my cardio comes on an assault bike or elliptical. Those are much more forgiving on my old joints and muscles

I have Hokas and love them. I have a pair I run in and a pair I work in since I’m on my feet all day and they have been a life saver.

Hokas have been god send for my bad knees

Now, maybe a 3-5 mile walk a few times a week and nothing hurts on my body.
This is where I have been lately. Trying to go every other day. I have a great place to do it. Will be heading out in a few hours for 3-5.
I need to seriously drop some weight and I think the exercise is really making me feel better since my work has become so stagnant.

I average 5 miles per day during the week of running/walking. I’m pretty good.

I went to one of those running shoe stores that measures your gate and heel strike and specially fits insoles in order to sell you expensive running shoes. $250 later my Cloud On shoes feel great…like I’m hovering above the pavement. Back problems have drastically reduced.
I have a few friends who have done the same. I probably need that more than anyone
I wear my flip flops all day in the shop and with me needing to drop some weight, my back and legs get tired. I wear Asics when I walk but just off the shelf stuff. They feel good on my feet and when I ditch the flops and wear them all day, my back is never as tired

Walking and peloton for me. No more high impact activities.

Yea I have had 2 knee surgeries on my left one and years of sports has done a number. I get a good year and a half out of my Bondis at work everyday until they go out

For all of y’all with knee issues, look at the Knees Over Toes program. It’s been a life changer for me. All those little nagging injuries and pains have gone away.

That's why my go to sports gravitated toward climbing, whitewater and backpacking which all require strength, endurance, and dexterity just not the pounding. Mid 60's now and still able to go all out 4-5 days a week. Usually leaving a trail of exasperated 30-40 somethings along the way. Especially like carrying boats uphill (and miles of flat water) because it's a state of mind, like distance running. And even the twenty somethings flex a bit when ahead of the old man. I've become the bench mark and we laugh a bit at to the guys who finishes behind. It's great.
Any one up for a canoe race?

I don't think I have any trouble with running but I've slowed down these last few years because of cramps

Yea I have torn my acl, mcl, lcl and lateral meniscus in my left knee. Last surgery I had on the meniscus when I was coming out of anesthesia I asked the surgeon how long until I have knee replacement. For context I’m 27

I went to minimal shoes.
When I ran I did that also. Ran in 5 toe shoes. Like these
I don't run any more but I do ride a road bike now which is much better on my knees.

Yoga. Been doing DDP Yoga for a few years after picking it back up, and it's the real deal. Can rebuild everything, even Hank Hill's arse. Buddy is in the same boat in his 30's. Multiple shoulder replacements, and needs a knee. Unfortunately yoga's not an option for him, but everybody needs it when they get to their 30's. Life changer.

Downhills hurt more than uphills over time. I prefer a nice mix.
Not if you’re on a wobbly scooter.
Then downhill hurts much worse.

Been averaging over 30 miles a week for the past three months mainly in my Vivobarefoot shoes, Xero huaraches, or straight barefoot. Vivo might be the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever worn.

100 yards on the sprints. I upchucked on 8. I did 9 then called it a day.
I remember those days in HS in early July reporting to mandatory running to get back in shape before 2-a-days started in August. First week started with 10 110's and incresed by 2 every day. Had to make a certain time based on position group. 2nd week lengthened out to 220 yd sprints.
I puked every single day of that shite almost. Running to increase stamina was never my thing.

That’s pretty soft for Summer training.
We did football camp- 4 a days
Offense
Defense
Special teams
Conditioning at night
And every session was basically conditioning. Special teams was basically the kicker kicking the ball and the whole team going to get it over and over.
In baseball, we had to run foul poles. They timed our best team effort at first. And then we had to match the time going forward which was impossible so the laps “never counted.” It was coaches mentally fricking us. Anybody that could breeze through that could survive ranger school.
