Go with the lowest drop (heel to toe difference) and the lowest stack height (overall height of the sole from the ground) that feels comfortable to you. Oh, and a neutral shoe.

My new Xero's get here tomorrow.

That zero drop is tough the older you get though. The lowest I’ve ever trained in was 4mm. Gave me some issues in race one time and I went back to traditional ones. I’ve been in Mizuno Wave Riders for most of the last 10-12 years and they are a 12mm.
Plus if you are still heel striking in the zero drop or your cadence is too low (under 180 spm) it can really aggravate the Achilles.
They are great for people who have good form, but don’t do that much to encourage it if you are still a heel striker

My husband loves running in the Brooks Glycerin (10mm). I have a lot of foot issues and do more cross training and I like the Brooks Ghost (12mm).

zero drop takes time, but you'll develop stronger feet muscles in the process, but all of the either solid sole/highly cushioned shoes you've worn have taken those away. It's way better eventually to be able to feel the ground under you in all aspects.

I ran in 12s and 8s and it killed me. 4s or below is all I can do. I'm in Xero, Vivo, or Altras 95% of the time now.

Anyone running this weekend? I see where they have 60+ spots left open in the half marathon. Hard to believe it has more elevation than the Mercedes here in Bham, but the course map says it does......
