Going Against The Grain Here

I mean, its been a little blown out of proportion. Almost all coaches talk about the issues after a win or loss. Always things to work on. Very few coaches come off the field and say "We were perfect", bla bla.


Most coaches come off the field with a "We gotta get better" mentality.


I wont manufacture a reason to like Golesh. If he earns my respect, he will get it. If he fricks it up, I wil call him on it. Either way it will be the truth. At this point, I honestly dont have a reason to like or not like him. The team is playing like a team early in the season. Lots of mistakes and some guys making some great plays

You shouldn't. We already have a built in echo chamber thanks to used car salesmen from the paywall sites and (a paid QB coach) trying to blow air up our skirts for some clicks.

Golesh rolled with continuity from the G6 ranks that werent always dominant on their level.
It looks rough at times. Even the RBU stuff looks weak.

His offense looked slow against USM. That makes zero sense.

Outside of how bad the o-line has been (and I expected it to not be great) this has been the thing that has disappointed me the most with the offense so far. Like you, I was expecting more down field passing with the Golesh offense.

And we are going to need to see much more of it as we move into SEC play.

Well.... It's clear that Byrum has been late with reads and hesitated when he shouldn't at points and it's cost us a few first downs and caused some turnovers. I'm disappointed because he's been in this system for years. However, I'm incredibly impressed with some of the passes he managed to make yesterday. Both deep passes to Koger were 9/10 NFL type throws. Right now I simply think it's too early in the season to act like this team can't improve, or we're being bit by some G6 bug and should accept a 5-7 finish. Yesterday I saw LSU barely beating tech in the first half, Ole piss pretty have the same score against Charlotte, and Florida beat Campbell following an impressive victory over Atlantic in week 1? It gets harder, but I have no reason to believe that WE can't improve under this new staff. It might go bad, but it might also go well. All I'm saying.

Just by looking at Byrum's stats which are inflated by quick outs and screens it appears he is on the pace to hold Auburn's second highest passing yards in a single season while dinking and dunking at a 3,200 pace yard pace at roughly 242 passing yards per game times 13 games.

Lot of assumptions have to unfold but it is weird that he can put up so many stats to be put into some rare air while passing so differently and with so little efficiency 2TDs vs 3 Interceptions at this point.

But at this point if rushing doesnt getting any more effective I see the ball getting slung around even more. Which is very bad.

With how shitty things have been for the last 5/6 years people are looking for anything that is a departure from that, freeze and Harsin. Thats it, and not that big of a deal to point out they liked his take on the game. If that one interview made people fall in love with him then let them have at it. I was too accepting before but it’s going to take winning for me to jump on a bandwagon.

All I have mostly seen is people hoping it works out. Golesh is young, he seems hungry, he looks to be holding everyone accountable in a manner I expect, he appears to have a plan, but it’s very early. Sure would be nice if he turns out to be a bad arse and builds something to be proud of again.

However, after two games things on offense feel too familiar at times, and I am not ready to crown him with a damn thing. Right now it looks too familiar from years past. A defense that will keep us in games and an offense that appears it can be impotent against top competition. That game was sloppy AF. Sure hope they can keep improving but the season will tell the story.

The only ones I have been impressed with on offense are the RB’s. I don’t know who’s coaching that group but you can see a consistent theme from them in how they each play. I believe part of that is Cobb’s leadership and from what I heard yesterday is Mabson may be pretty vocal, and emerging as a leader on the team. This weekend will be a great test to see the reality of where we are at.

Freeze' press conferences were embarrassing.

He had a sob story every loss. One time he even said he texted friends and they were like "you are so unlucky." He put on fake sobs and told a fake conversation with McPherson to get some empathy. The crying got beneath my skin.
