Seemed like the writing was on the wall when the coaches didn't give him a shot last year and then brought in transfer QBs. He didn't fit their system so they never gave him a shot.

Damn. I always wanted him to have a shot

Took long enough.
We’ve been expecting this for a while, though.

Yeah I wish he would have got a shot instead of sending the corpse of TJ Finley out there again and again, but it is what it is.. most figured this was coming. I expected it right after the season actually.

Exactly. I would have liked to at least watch him play. Hope he has a Malik Willis turn around.

Going to transfer to Liberty and grow into a high draft pick...

Tbh everyone was saying he was the worst performing QB and all the practices so far. They probably let him know early. Also, go look at the QB sprint practice videos. Kid didn’t look good.

The kid just wasn’t a good fit. Good luck to him. Seems like a guy that will land on his feet somewhere.

He is tiny, has below average arm strength, and is not very accurate either. This isn't like Malik Willis at all (who is powerfully built and a freakish runner with a rocket-launcher for an arm).
This kid just wasn't very good. This has been the talk on him for like 6-8 months now. When he went to the Elite 11 out of HS he didn't look very good either. There is a reason why we stole him from Virginia Tech and why no one tried to steal him after Malzahn was fired. He's just not an SEC QB; could be a starter at a G5 school.

CB Ro Torrence is transferring out as well. He just transferred in last year and was playing more towards the end of the year. I don't think he would have started, but probably would have been the #2 at one of the CB spots.
Might need to turn this into the outgoing spring transfer thread

He got passed by AD Diamond, JD Rhym, and DJ James. Plus they have Keionte Scott coming in.
He basically got pushed out.

How many scholarship transfers does that make now?

quote:No shot at you here because I'm sure you got the info from someone who covers the team, but I don't believe for a second that a guy who played in 10 games last year has already been passed up by a true freshman who has only practiced with the team a few days now. Rotations are all over the place this early in camp so its too hard to tell where any new player fits in.

How does a guy like that break all those records, then? Was he really just surrounded by studs and in a really good system?

I think he was surrounded by great talent. Also, by all accounts he is a true ‘gamer’ and just makes plays when the lights come on. Unfortunately for him, the sec requires you to play well at all times and not just games. No coach is gonna throw you out there at game time and hope it all clicks.

He had 2 very highly rated WRs and a 3rd that was a 3 star I think. Plus a good OL and running back.
However he did make plays at the high school level. It is weird timing to enter the portal. I would finish out practice enter the portal and remain in school until the semester were over but that's just me. It's not like he can just go somewhere tomorrow and start practicing with another team.

When they hit the portal do they lose access to the weight room, training staff, and academic help? I’d want access to that for a couple more months. Mid semester portal, to me, means there’s some hurt feelings.

Who's interested in a betting pool on the date he commits to UCF?
I'm guessing April 29th.

Yes, he played on a loaded team with a great offensive system. He wasn't even the highest rated recruit on his offense, let alone the whole team. He can obviously play, but things like physical limitations become a much bigger problem the higher up you move in football. In HS it was easy for him to just scramble around or complete passes to wide open receivers - you don't get to do that in the SEC.
It's why scouting "stats" isn't a thing at any level. Colt Brennan (RIP) put up a million yards and touchdowns in college but obviously wasn't good enough to start in the NFL.
