You are worth what the market says your worth. The market is arguing he's worth that whether we like it or not. I say pay him.

A complete desperate dumpster fire Arkansas program is not the market

Look at what Florida paid Mullen. Look at what A&M paid Fisher. You might not like it but Gus is in between those guys on the scale.

Assuming the report is accurate (and I doubt it is), what other schools do you think would offer him a similar deal?

His name hasn't come up for discussion for any other job opening other than Arky. His "market value" is distorted by the handful of Arky boosters who are determined to hire him.

Can you even prove that Arkansas is offering him that much? We are getting played. Malzahn has burned all sorts of bridges at Arkansas; there are people in power there that wouldn't take him at $4 million let alone $7 million. Half their fanbase doesn't even like him. So who exactly is approving a $7+ million deal (a ridiculous number) from their end given the fact that Malzahn is as polarizing as it gets within that AD?

I'd call his bluff. If they actually do pay him $7 million (I bet they don't) I'd turn around and offer that same contract to Justin Fuente who I think is a better coach anyway.

Barrett Sallee says Arkansas expects an answer by the end of the day and has their B and C options ready

Justin Fuente lost to Georgia Tech in year two... then looked like dogshit vs UVA to end the year.

And he’s 0-1 vs Butch Jones

ETA... I’m on board with calling sextons bluff... but we better be ready to have or on search.

He's worth 6m with heavy incentives, to Auburn.

You have to put the market in context. Auburn is a better job than Arkansas. It's possible to have 8 win seasons with the occasional good run with just about any semi decent HC at Auburn.

2nd half points vs. Clemson: 0
2nd half points vs. LSU: 0
2nd half points vs. Georgia: 0

6 quarters, 0 points, with a Championship caliber roster.

But hey, we're off to play UCF in the who-gives-a-frick-bowl, better give Gus what he wants.

Better than hiring a worse coach. Gus has proved he can do it

Worse coach how? Our talent shits on what VTech has. Auburn sells itself; there were tons of inside people who didn't think that Malzahn could recruit as a HC back when we were deciding on him vs. Kirby. Fuente would enjoy the same bump in talent; and his ability with quarterbacks would make us a threat every year.

Fuente inheriting a ready-made defense... and he’s getting dominated by the good teams he’s playing.

Maybe JF takes a step forward in the coming years... he did a great job rebuilding Memphis. That doesn’t mean he’s better than why we currently have.

Yep. the market value for HC's has gone up exponentially. Hell, coordinators are making over $1M now. Over the last ten years, look at how many different HC's have played for a NC. We have one who has. He was also the OC for a NC team...............and everybody knows that the D did not win that NC.

I can’t imagine Arkansas is gonna pay him that much. This sounds like a Sexton bluff. I predict gus will get a modest raise and an extension and we will have an amazingly average season next year.

All this.

I like Gustav, and I think he's a very good HC who has the potential to be great - but he's not there yet, and there's a chance he won't ever get there.
