Fortunately, Harsin either wasn’t willing or couldn’t fill the roster

All rosters have a combination of prospects and depth. Ultimately there’s 22 guys that start, rotational help, plus the special teams. But that’s almost always about half the roster no matter how good your program is. There’s only so much playing and practice rep time available to guys
They should cut the roster space and schools in D1. Right now there are way too many teams that will never compete with the top programs (especially with money now). Also with 85 that's basically 4 players at every position (not counting left and right sides). 60 sounds like a good round number for schools and scholarships. The rest go to division 1b and let the division 1a fill out their rosters with top players and all be competitive.

That is an absolutely horrible suggestion.

Because the watered down pool of players flipping around and weak teams make it so much better. I for one prefer good games every week across the country. Not lopesided blowouts with 2 or 3 good games a week.

I have always said the final solution will be 4 conferences of 20 teams. 2 divisions in each. 9 conf games so you play every one in your division. Then 3 games against the other 3 super conferences. That’s what the TV folks want.

Obviously they will have to expand scholarships to around 100 so health doesn’t become a huge factor. The academic side will have a bitchfest because you will
Have to schedule at least 2 bye weeks per schedule and will get into finals in December but 100 million dollar yearly budgets makes that all go away.

It’s crazy to think the model is absolutely NFL minor league

I see the benefits of so many scholarships or slots but most of the time not that many players will be hurt down past 3rd or 4th string. I know it happens but not likely. Even not with 2 to 4 more games a year. That many spots will just leave alot more players not playing and jumping ship each year. We will be teaching alot of kids (and paying) 50 to 60 new kids most years. It will be like Freshman year in our system to every transfer.

I do agree with all games with top teams and no cupcakes. They will really have to limit or fix the transfer portal atleast some. It's a great thing but out of control right now.

They should also do something about the different enrollment standards for athletes. Like have generic degrees that all schools offer and have the same standards. The schools can keep their own requirements for their main courses. Most star football players don't come for degrees anyways. Plus it's not right for schools to have no chance at a player because they have higher standards than teams even in their own conference. It's also not right to take away from the students to lower the standards of the top courses for athletes that's don't use it.

In the future when I say something dumb and I feel bad about myself I can always refer back to these posts to make me feel better about myself.

Generic degrees? These are still institutions of higher education and shouldn’t have the NCAA tell them what to offer and what not to offer. This is a case where one industry has outgrown the boundaries of another. Student-athlete with a focus on the student part is how this began. Teams were made up of students from a school that were the best athletes. Then came fans. Then came recruiting. Then came media deals. Then came boatloads of money. Now we’re just putting on a charade where we watch a semi-pro team that happens to have our favorite university sponsoring it. Why don’t we just cut the cord and let the athletes play sports and the academics do the academics?

The days where we could identify with student athletes in football and basketball because they had similar classes, lived in the same dorm, and shared the same passion for our school is coming to a close.

I'd rather go the other way and have student athletes playing student athletes. Start a G league for the NFL and give the 95% of student athletes that will never play pro ball an education.

Fine by me. The NCAA just don't want that. Students are already trying to get paid for going to school like athletes.

Unlike Georgia we do really well dodging these bullets despite recruiting the same talent pool. However, Rara would’ve been a take here and I don’t fault Georgia.

At the same time, hate that the young man went down that route.

This is something I could get behind.

Can you imagine CFB teams firing their coaches midseason and bringing in a fixer to get the team above the line (Actually, we just tried that, didn't we). Or playing a late season game against Mississippi State where the loser drops to the Sunbelt. It definitely would add some excitement.

I agree that it is not the NCAA's place, probable for another board, but Academia has lost its way. Cost are way up and the value of many degrees is near worthless. General Studies prepares you for what? Would rather they get a degree in how to be an electrician.
