In terms of importance to the city, fans, etc.

Growing up in the suburbs, EVERYONE was a Braves fan but not everyone was a Falcons fan.

And now Atlanta United seem to have taken over everything and the fan support is fricking incredible.

Hawks are last though. I don’t think that’s debatable haha.

How would you rank them?

Passionate among their fans:

United shows that there are tons of great sports fan in Atlanta. They also have massive advantages of spending like an NFL team and no opposing teams people are fans of.

The World Series is the ultimate prize in my mind. The Super Bowl is neat, but I get my football rocks off more at the college level.

The World Series is my favorite postseason spectacle in all of sports, I think.

Braves (they brought home a championship to a much beleaguered city)
Falcons
United (they're quickly gunning for the #2 spot)

Dream

Thrashers (I know they're defunct, still better than the Hawks)

Silverbacks

Hawks. They're the worst. Actually, they're 2nd-to-worst because they can't even be the best at sucking.

If we are just talking the Metro Area (not the franchise as a whole regionally)

1. Falcons
2. Braves

3. United

4. Hawks

The Falcons and the Braves are without a doubt the 2 biggest deals in this city. Regionally the Braves would have a big gap, but in the Metro I think the Falcons are #1. People nationally don't seem to understand how much people in Atlanta love the Falcons, which has always been strange to me. United is obviously the hot new thing, and while I think they have staying power, that'll have to stick for more than 2-3 years.

I personally love the Hawks, and as the 60 win season showed the city will love them, but they've just never been able to grab hold and keep the attention. I think a lot of it has to do with not having a great start player since Nique. The city loves the NBA, they just don't love the Hawks. And, to be fair, the Hawks haven't given them a whole lot of reason to love them.

Braves
Falcons
United
Hawks

It all comes down to ownership/management.

The Braves have had the most success with management.
The Falcons have had the most success with ownership.
The United appears to have good ownership and management. But it is still early in the honeymoon.
The Hawks have awful ownership and for the most part awful management.

Ownership killed the Thrashers (11 seasons and never fired the management).

I think United is here to stay. It’s the only team in the city that everyone roots for- transplants AND locals.

Y'all, when I say that the New Orleans school system is sad, here's a perfect example.

Braves/Falcons is a hard call.

Braves have far more nostalgia factor for young-ish Atlantans. Because many of us grew up when the Braves were good. And baseball in general is just more captivating to kids, I think. "How can you not be romantic about baseball?"

But baseball is a long season and casual interest for a mediocre team is hard to sustain. And this town is dying for a Super Bowl win.

I'll always be a Braves fan foremost. But I'd love to get a super bowl win, probably more so than another World Series win.
