The Braves have had the most success with management.
The Falcons have had the most success with ownership.
The United appears to have good ownership and management. But it is still early in the honeymoon.
The Hawks have awful ownership and for the most part awful management.

Ownership killed the Thrashers (11 seasons and never fired the management).

I don't know about that first one. The Braves were undisputed #1 until a few years ago, but years of hideous management combined with moving the team out to the suburbs has taken its toll. ITP, nobody talks about the Braves anymore. Nobody cares about them. Sure, people will go to a game if they manage to get free tickets from work, but it's not an event like it was at the Ted.

So I'd rank them:

Falcons
United
Braves
Hawks

Wow...so much wrong with this.

Moving to "the suburbs" (i.e. 10 minutes from midtown) was been an absolute slam dunk (homerun if you prefer to stick with baseball terms).

The atmosphere in the battery for pre and post game is light years ahead of walking under the bridge smelling piss and shite and getting harassed by the homeless.

I 100% disagree that "ITP no one talks about the Braves", but even if it were the case, it's because they have sucked since 2013, not because they moved.

It was never an event at Turner Field. Mid-week games at STP are more of an event than any non-playoff game at Turner.

The prices on stubhub for most games completely contradict your claim that people only go if they get free tickets.

You are so far off the mark, it's hysterical.

What's interesting is I think in a lot of people's minds, ATL United is already #1.

You've been here pimping your third world shithole like it's some awesome city so I wouldn't have been surprised if you were serious about that

Honestly, they can have their super bowl. I'm feeling pretty good about where I live and my life in general. I've never seen people so insecure that they feel the need to keep propping up something that happened 10 years ago.

It would be like if I talked shite to you UGA fans about Georgia Tech winning the more recent national championship. It's completely irrelevant

I'm looking at these in their totality. Not just today.

The braves had hall of fame managers/gms.
The falcons currently have great ownership (the best in ATL history I think).

I have no issue agreeing to disagree. And no issue not caring what anyone ITP thinks about OTP.

This may not be the thread for me, but AUFC is the only Atlanta team I care about.

I think that’s probably true of a lot of people. Especially young adults. United have redefined what this city can be as a sports base.

nope, they are a part of the city. this thread is definitely for you.

I don't get the people who actively want soccer to fail int he city. I'm not a soccer fan, but I've been to a couple of games and had a blast.

The dynamics in play seem pretty simple to me:

You have a segment of the population who have been dying for a soccer team, and they finally got one. Sure there is some overlap between the soccer fans and those of the other 3 major sports, but I would imagine that the number isn't extremely high.

Last season began with a frenzy of enthusiasm, but the actual success of the team probably helped that enthusiasm sustain over the course of the entire season and into this year. You also have a team that is doing what it takes to build a champion as quickly as possible. As long as they remain aggressive as a franchise, I don't see this enthusiasm dying out any time soon.

The other segment of the Atlanta sports fan base has become extremely jaded by underachieving, cheapskate owners, and perennial losing. I think this partly explains why we haven't been able to shed the transplant city status. I think if the Braves win 2 more World Series titles during their run, it would be a bit different for them and the indifference wouldn't have settled in so quickly with the fans.

You don't live ITP, do you?

A few years ago we'd consider going to a Braves game any time, no matter how terrible they were. Now? People won't go unless it's the weekend, and even then they want free tickets to consider it. it's just not a good product, Battery aside.

Go to stubhub right now - I can get into the Braves stadium for $6 for most games. Atlanta United get-in price is around $40. Even your own points don't stand up to basic scrutiny.

I'm sure that OTP the Braves moving out of Atlanta has been great, but ITP it's made them nonexistent. Walk through Piedmont Park on a Saturday and tell me how much Braves gear you see compared to United, or the Falcons, or UGA. They've evaporated from the city's consciousness.

no

And it doesn't help that they've been less than stellar. Walking around Turner Field was sketchy as hell and I don't miss it at all. And FWIW i was worried when the initial plans came out to move it to the corridor. But walking around and feeling safe, and the atmosphere is hard to beat.

I'm not comparing the mother fricking Braves to Atl United dipshit. I'm comparing OTP to ITP Braves.

The new stadium allowed them to draw 2.5 mil last year with a decrease in stadium capacity by about 20%. They drew more last year than they did the previous 2 years by about 25% and drew better than or on par with every season at Turner Field since 2003.

Last year throughout the season the tickets on Stub Hub were much higher in most sections than they ever were at Turner 2003 on. They have averaged 32k per night so far this year.

I work ITP and have enough friends who live ITP to know that they weren't going to games at Turner Field. My small sample size is just as legit as you saying "we'd consider going..."

Who gives a flying frick whether people are wearing Braves gear at Piedmont Park. Of course the fricking gays are going to like soccer more than baseball for frick's sake. Again, I'm not comparing the Braves to other sports. I'm comparing the Braves to the Braves. I'm also not going to get into semantics about ticket prices for 15 home games all of which are on Saturday and Sunday with 1 or 2 exceptions. Just like you wouldn't compare baseball prices to NFL or College Football.

You are just a fricking idiot. They haven't disappeared from jack shite. The majority of the baseball fans always lived OTP anyways, and their research showed that. Do you think they moved their home stadium for shits and giggles?

They didn't disappear, but just to humor your point, they probably "disappeared" in the early 2000s.

Of course not. They moved because Cobb County officials let them soak their citizens for more profit than Atlanta officials would. In terms of money, it was a great move for the Braves - who if you remember, are described by their owners as a real estate business more than a baseball team.

In terms of those ITP caring about them as a baseball team? Not a great move.

You said Braves were hot ticket based on stub hub.

If $6 means a hot ticket, boy are you disconnected from sports ticket prices in 2018...

There's no way you can put the Braves ahead of the Falcons.

Doesn't make me happy to say that but let's be honest, the number of people you talk to who follow the Falcons is gonna outweigh the Braves in the Metro Area.

Braves probably get a boost from their legacy Superstation fans in more remote areas and other states.

Atlanta United is quite the surprise for sure. I haven't caught the bug but it's exciting to witness

I was referring to last year. There have only been a handful of games this year.
