Yeah Curbed details what's getting built, beltline developments, big multi use projects, stuff like that

On a more micro level, ToneToATL is a website/blog that covers the same stuff, but will have more details about what is going into that little shopping center being built around you, what restaurants are closing, etc.

As for the person asking about why liberalism matters, it's because it impacts how BamaATL views everything. There is a hivemind among young Atlanta liberals who congregate in the same parts of Atlanta and talk about the same shite and come to the same narrow conclusions. Suburban conservatives have their Yetis and guns, ITP liberals have their intellectual and geographical superiority.

ITP liberals have intense animosity toward suburban life in general because that's where the Trump voters live, people go to church and other awful things. So when the Braves moved there, it was, to them, a ratification of the suburban lifestyle, which they despise. It got worse when local restaurant outposts got added to the new stadium (rather than 3-4 Applebees and a Mattress Firm), because they really hung their fedoras on being able to laugh at the Braves' failure (which didn't materialize).

I currently live ITP and am liberal. Why does that matter?

I am from Cobb County and love the suburbs. I think the Battery is awesome, and I enjoy going. It is literally 8 miles on the highway up 75 from downtown. I don’t get why ITP people bitch about driving 20 minutes.

A transit rail to SunTrust would be dope and a downtown ballpark is more convenient to where I work, but I love the Cumberland area being a unique destination (beyond the river area, which is great to run at).

Yep - with the new ability for TADs voting on transit I expect the Cumberland TAD to push that shortly in conjunction with either a 285 spur or the holy grail of a 75 north spur from Arts Center. Or, at the least, a commuter rail line to Acworth/Cartersville that has a stop at the Galleria. If they get that (obviously it wouldn't be functional for at least 10 years) then the setup there is perfect. That's my only objection at this point.

B/c one of the board's biggest liberals went on a ridiculously dishonest rant about the Braves the page before? I didn't create the liberal Atlantan hate for the burbs and Braves, I'm just discussing it (don't shoot the messenger).

Agree

Agree, there just isn't enough downtown to compete with what the Braves have going now. Nor is downtown the "heart" of Atlanta in any realistic sense these days.

Bama Atl is one of the biggest left wing idiots on these boards and his/her rants don't come close to representing the some of the most ardent SJW's I know ITP.

So you're using Bama Atlanta as an example of "liberals hating the burbs"?? I live ITP and come in contact with
SJW's daily and I cannot remember 1 conversation that revolved around "hatred for burbs".You really think people that can afford homes in Midtown,West Midtown,Decatur,N. Decatur,Avondale Estates,Brookhaven and even East Atlanta are frothing at the mouth SJW's???Most new folks moving in are transfers or suburbanites that were sick of their commute and most have much more in common with wealthy OTP'ers in Sandy Springs,East Cobb,Roswell or Dunwoody.

Can think of very few people that I've encountered ITP that disagreed with Braves move.

Read Reddit Atlanta or Curbed, his opinion is probably a small minority but it's a vocal minority. You're making an objection to an argument I haven't made (that some loud SJWs represent all ITP liberals).

In fact, I'm making almost the opposite argument, that the people like BamaAtl (he's not alone, there are others like him who've I've unfortunately interacted w/ IRL) are a small sliver of the ITP community who incorrectly believe their whacko thoughts reflect everyone else's. As to your point about people bitching about the suburbs, I generally agree, I don't hear it as much IRL as I do on Reddit/Twitter/etc. That said, I did hear TONS of bitching about the Braves moving, but I think that's dying down now that the Braves are putting up division-leading attendance numbers.

The AJC has doubled down on their ripping of the Braves.

Curbed is fricking awful. "Why aren't there more upscale restaurants and shops in south Atlanta and Clayton County?!"

I like Curbed in the sense that I just find real estate development and growth in certain areas pretty interesting

But it's a collection of contradictions. People complain Atlanta doesn't have an authentic culture, but want to solve that by importing an identical culture from elsewhere and promoting vapid cultural elements ("like, that graffiti art is sooo cool") instead of just letting our actual lifestyles speak for themselves.

We're a car-based city. While some changes to that are probably welcome, traffic is pretty much an inherent cultural element of Atlanta. So are the suburbs. I'm all about improving transportation and the like, I just find it bizarre to hear people rant about how cookie cutter Atlanta is while wanting to fabricate a lifestyle that doesn't come naturally here.

That's an insult to Woodstock. It has some damned good restaurants. At least name some backwater town.

why should I care what a bunch of libs living ITP care about the Braves? I love the new location and so does everyone else except your echo chamber of friends.

OTP is becoming just as diverse.

My house fricking loves the Braves. Sports isn't about politics though. It's just so weird for me to have politics come up around sports.

Some people on this board don’t think it’s possible for someone to vote liberally AND like sports. So they rain down the abuse.

Well most sports fans are men, and men by their very nature can't be liberal, so, it's just an educated guess, really

A) I haven't gotten into any political or cultural shite on the soccer board in eons

B) The only thing of that nature on this board is this particular line of discussion that began when one of the board's biggest progressive went on a dumb tirade.

It's obvious that at some point you got miffed by something I said on the Soccer board. I'm sure that was in jest too, so you'd probably be best served by growing a spine and moving on.
