This movie was one of the worst theater experiences Ive ever had in my life. Nolan is the most overrated director in Hollywood today. He knows spectacle, but absolutely misses it with actual human emotion.

Within 10 minutes of the movie, we have two characters speaking to each other in which is supposed to be a heart felt moment. You get one character speaking a line and you get a close up shot, and you get this loud blast of sound. Then it cuts to the other character. Another line of dialogue, and another loud blast of sound. What is the point? Youre not getting me to sympathize with either character with the forced, and out of place score.

We get a battle scene that I still dont know where it is in the work by Homer. Just a bunch of guys in medieval fantasy armor destroying Odysseus and his men and forcing them to flee. Seriously, where in the Odyssey is this from? I havent read the story in a while, but I dont remember this anywhere.

Matt Damon is absolutely miscast as Odysseus. He is not a sympathetic character. He is a great warrior that does what is necessary for himself, and yet, we get a soft Matt Damon, playing Matt Damon, in a Matt Damon movie. Jon Bernthal as The Punisher is closer to who Odysseus is that whatever Nolan and Damon decided the character should be for the movie.

Where is Hermes?

One of the most famous parts of the Odyssey is the interaction with Circe, and yet Matt Damon strolls in and after about three lines of dialogue, Circe agrees to turn his men back into humans and everything is good?

Why the hell is Agememnon wearing fantasy armor while the rest of the whole cast wearing something at least a little more similar to the Bronze Age period? Also, why is Menelaus and Telemachus dressed like they are about to speak to Little John in Sherwood Forest?

Maybe explain why the cows(of Helios) on the island are off limits. Instead its a 5 minute scene that ends with the whole remaining crew being killed. That kind of seems important. Maybe say why.

Where the frick is Hermes?

For the most part, I actually enjoyed the finale. Tom Holland rounds into the role of Telemachus pretty well, and Robert Pattinson as Antinous is a solid villain in the end. It just would have been nice to see the last inquiry of Odysseus by Penelope. That always felt like a vital part of the end of the story.

Also, Elliot Page’s character is not there to take the place of Achilles. We are shown that the character is not much of a fighter, and that’s why she is left to “guard” the Trojan Horse, and to die. In the Odyssey, when Odysseus goes to the underworld, he speaks to a number of characters from Achilles to Agamemnon to Ajax, even to Hercules. The Page character is there to put a link to Antinous in the third act. It has nothing to do with replacing Achilles.

Nolan is good at spectacle but when to comes to human interaction, he fails most of the time.

This was not a good movie at all.

The EPL has two seperate tv deals with England and the United States that are worth billions. Ad in deals with many other countries across the globe that are in the 100s of millions.

There’s less than a dozen clubs across Europe that can compare in player spending to even the worst teams in the EPL year in and year out.

This gulf in spending between the EPL and other leagues is showing up in depth. Since the rules changed two years ago and eliminated Champions League clubs are no longer pushed to the Europa League playoffs, the EPL has won both thr Europa and Conference League championships in back to back years and it’s really not been close. The EPL does not dominate the Champions League since clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, PSG, and Bayern Munich can match the spending done by the top EPL clubs.

What about Chet Atkins and the Nashville Sound that permeated throughout country music in the late 50s and 60s that helped to introduced Outlaw Country with Waylon and Willie.

Or the disco country that lasted through the mid-70s until the mid to late 80s that caused the neo-traditional sound from Randy Travis, Keith Whitley, and others to populate the charts.

Learn your country music history. "Pop country" has had many sounds in the past 70 years since there was a delineation between country and western.

edit:Not sure if you know this, but Alabama was considered "pop country" when they started in the late 70s to the 80s. Compare what they were putting out compared to the giants at the time(Jones, Merle, Goslin, Conway). The electric guitar with popular musical arrangements at the time was nowhere close to what traditional country was.

I know what I love in the horror genre, and Im unforgiving with my rankings when I get stuff that goes against what I like. Then obviously, I have a soft spot for movies that take a swing with something different like Exit 8 and Faces of Death.

If something can actually scare me or put me on edge in 2026, then it gets a bump.

I dont know of any good horror podcasts. I listen to The Big Picture and love when Sean and Chris Ryan discuss horror every blue moon, but thats about it.

Had my second viewing with a full theater tonight..

It surpassed all expectations from watching it a first time.

Yes, I am not a fan of Seth Rogan. I know he's a woke turd thats said many a bad things about conservatives, and he turned his back on his boy Franco to elevate his standing in Hollywood. Yes, I know Olivia Wilde bombed with Dont Worry Darling, and was caught cheating on Sudeikis, and still refutes it, even with evidence. Norton is an all time arse hole, and Penelope Cruz is a wanna be socialist with her husband Javier Bardem.

Have I missed anything that will make conservatives cringe at this movie?

Anyway, I put all that beind me, and Im glad I did. This film is possibly an all timer. up there with Who's Afrafid of Virginia Woolf? and the incomparable Elizabeth Taylor.

The second viewing really shined on Olivia Wilde. Her manic, crazy portrayal of a 40 something woman at her wits end is a thing of beauty. Her facial expressions are Oscar worthy alone.

Norton just looks like he is having fun the whole film. You can really tell he loves what he is doing, and once you realize that his monologue in the third act was all improv, you will appreciate it even more.

Rogan is 2008 funny, just older, and more jaded, and a 50 something Penelope Cruz is incredibly sexy and perfect for the role given to her.

Perfect score. The intermitten use of a lone violin or piano is so effective. Its a gorgeous apartment as the setting of the film, and the camera blocking is perfectly done. I love the shots. Some stick with you.

Give the movie a chance, no matter what your political leanings tell you. Its a fricking joy to watch, and one of the decades, and maybe century's, best.

A huge success this summer....Already made almost 3.5x than the last one 13 years ago. Will be the 2nd highest grossing of the series by the end of next weekend, only behind the original. Its at 225 million world wide on a 30 million dollar budget.

I remember that just a few days ago, you posted English Premier League ratings and how they are lower than WNBA as proof no one cares about soccer, and yet the Premier League's time slots in the US are usually at 7am, 9am, and 10am on Saturdays and Sundays.

Complete dog shite of a movie. I want my money back and I pirated the movie off the internet.

The movie looks cheap. Mamoa looks like he is in bad white face paint. This movie might have the worst cover of all time. Its a Sarah McLaughlin type cover of The Middle by Jimmy Eat World, and its the big third act needle drop.

Milly Alcock is bad. The villain is worse, and even as a dog lover, Im over the shoehorning of Krypto as emotional terrorism.

He's a college pitcher that always pitches on 7 days rest. No chance he was or is going to come back before the championship series. Wednesday would be 4 days rest and would push him to game 3 of the championship series on another 4 days rest. No chance that would ever happen. He's the game 1 starter next Saturday unless the are in the losers bracket and have to have a couple of innings to save their season. Vigue/Brown/Scott are going to have to pitch game 3.
