Walt Williams and Pinnacle Preps

Walt played for Gustavo and was funneling Arkansas players to AU.

But now he’d be funneling Arkansas players to Arkansas. Problem solved.

I was calling out Sexton, not Gus. We’ve been on the receiving end of this shite before.

For the record, I want Gus, I’m just hesitant to accept all the smoke as reality given Sexton’s involvement.

Trey Biddy say's GM's buyout is 6 mill, plus assistants...

Plus paying out CBB's and the assistants, Plus paying out Long and paying GM, and the new Assistants, and paying for a new AD.

and... I got info that one board member say's... Several want GM, I DO NOT and will try to stop it...

a good ole fashioned brouhaha...

Going to add up to about $50 mil for about 8 wins a season with an occasional 9 or 10 every so often.

Here’s to Auburn winning and Sexton using us for leverage.

Only hope our GOBN and BOT realize this before the other quality candidates are gone.

It will be very, very expensive indeed. It's also very polarizing at a time when they need everyone they can get behind whomever it is they hire.

I highly doubt Malzahn is the guy. Could I be wrong? I'm always frickin wrong, but Lord I hope I'm right this time. I would view a Malzahn hire as a complete disaster from the jump.

What doesn't seem to get factored in to these GM discussions is his precarious position at AU and how that comes into play. Let's say they win the Iron Bowl, or even keep it close and have a chance to win it in the end - that means they finish with a major bowl and a top 10 ranking at worst, national championship at absolute best.

GM would be an ABSOLUTE FOOL to risk getting caught flirting with the Arkansas job, even attempting to leverage a raise, after juuuuust winning back the Auburn faithful and power brokers. Only way he does flirt with Arkansas is if hes 100% committed to leaving AU, otherwise the pitchforks come right back out when he turns back around to AU and says "I wasn't serious honey, I loved you the whole time!"

isn't this what most reasonable fans expect though?

Auburn has so much more talent then we ever will have.
Why do people act like Gus hasn't already schemed an offense around an Arkansas roster before?

Here's a hint: We were playing in Atlanta at the end of the year.

People will respond with, "Well he had McFadden, Jones, etc!!" Like he didn't scheme to get the best players the ball as many times as possible, something the staff now refuses to do.

Gus doesn't owe Auburn anything if he leaves on his own. 6M is buyout if they fire him. And we'd only have to pay for assistants he didn't bring with him or didnt get retained at Auburn. The price tag for Gus to come here is miniscule.

David Lee came in and improved the offense in every area they following year, so we should hire him instead?

Agreed.

I'm not a diehard Malzahnista, but Gus is my top choice for a few different reasons.

We had McFadden, Felix and Hillis both before and after him, and we were 4-7 before he got here and 8-5 after he left. Similarly, Auburn went 8-5 in 2011, he leaves and they fall off a cliff to 3-9/0-8, and they jump back up to 12 wins and an SEC Championship his first year back.

Say what you want about him, his morals, the way he conducts himself, and the way he allegedly treats people, he's a damn good football coach nonetheless. He's basically a Bobby Petrino who doesn't cuss.

I'd be curious to see how many people offering to throw their bodies in front of hiring Gus would take Petrino back or have said on prior occasions that firing him was the wrong move.

The counter to that is that he's essentially on 1 year contracts (figuratively), and he reportedly hates that.

We've already seen an example at LSU of a much-maligned coach winning a game(s) to get back in a school's good graces, getting an extension, and then getting fired the next season. Gus had a front row seat to that because the loss to Auburn in 2016 got Miles fired.

I look at it this way -- barring winning the CFP this year, Malzahn could potentially be let go for going 8-4 at Auburn next year, whereas he'd be a savior if he went 8-4 here next year. Taking the Arkansas job practically guarantees that he'll be coaching in the SEC for the next 5 years.
