Exactly, and he's only eliminated Coach Z from his staff.

Except I'm not. I'm also not defending him. I simply listed out the reasons why I believe he will get next season.

I went on to say that we should be looking for a suitable replacement between now and then.

Mostly it's because of the youth of his team. You are able to say you are actively seeking out someone to replace Anderson with while still giving him a chance to see how he develops the current roster.

I highly doubt the admins are going to just can the guy this year. We aren't in a position where that's necessary, or prudent, IMO.

Now, if I'm wrong and Yurachek pulls the trigger, I won't complain. Mike has had enough time. He knows it, we all know it.

I'll go out on a limb though and say that I think he will still be here 2 years from now. I think this team will redeem itself next season in a pretty big way.

HY hasn't ever hired or fired as an AD

That's another story for the GOBN

WTF. Seriously? I'd think that's a problem.

Well, firing someone isn't all that hard. It's the hiring part that we need to concern ourselves with. Especially if this dude has never made a hire as an AD?? Is that a legit claim? He didn't hire anyone to Houston? Did he hire Tom Herman?

I'm more worried about the coaching search.

have we considered the option of retirement.... I mean Mike looks beat down on the sidelines.... maybe he's done and ready to step down.... If he's smart he could go out his way.....

Doesn't seem like he would blow his top like Nolan did.....

Offer him retirement (we pay out his remaining salary) and a job with the AD's office. He's a great ambassador for the University.

So he could mettle in the coaching search and the basketball program.

No thanks. Fire him and send him down the road. He’d do great in the Sunbelt.

We need to fire Mike Anderson at the end of the season. Then go after Beard or Sampson. Sick of seeing athletes trying to play basketball and traps that leave wide open shots. We are a top 25 program. We deserve a top 25 coach.

1. He has never had a losing season.

Pretty telling when your number one point is that the guy has never lost more than he’s won. He is paid millions of dollars to know basketball, and recruit high school kids to make use of some of the finest facilities in the nation.

quote:

2. His high water mark (from two "lesser programs") are the Elite Eight and a brief #1 ranking. (This suggests he can achieve this and maybe more at Arkansas)

Except he has had most of a decade to actually do that here, and he has failed miserably. Which does much more than suggest that he in fact can’t achieve this, it states it plainly as a fact.

quote:

3. Until this season, Anderson's team is second behind Kentucky for total SEC wins over the back half of Anderson's tenure.

If you weren’t a MA fanboy, this would be seen as an embarrassment, not a talking point. Kentucky has done things of significance in college basketball in the last 8 years. MA? One and done if you make it, but celebrate the moral victory of not being as good as Kentucky?

quote:

This season Anderson has the youngest team in the entire country.

This is part of the job for every basketball coach. If MA was a good coach, they would be playing their best basketball in damn near March, February, wouldn’t they? If they were the youngest team in the country game one, now they are the youngest team in the country with 25 games or so under their belt, aren’t they? Do you think they are playing their best ball of the season? If not, why?

what we should do: find a graceful way to separate with Mike what we will probably do: dress up like ghosts and burn a lower case t in his yard for time to leave

Unfortunately, this is probably true. I was all for Mike being hired. Did I think he was the best candidate? No. But I felt like we had to in order to right the wrongs of the Nolan situation. We need to find a way to end this amicably, but not before we have our guy lined up. Don't need another Dana Altman situation and at this point can afford a shitty or mediocre hire. I really, really wanted Mike to be the guy. He's a great guy. He's all Arkansas and he's a link to our greatness, but it's obviously time.

Give me Musselman, he's more likely. Beard wouldn't come imo.

But I still believe CMA gets another year.

I'm not sure why posters think he would leave. He has connections to Tech and that state. I think he is only leaving for a Blue Blood or Texas. Musselman would also be difficult but he is only making a million a year. That will change after this year but will have to see what directions schools like UCLA go before we know what we look like if we are searching for a coach.
