So... What to do About Basketball?

Everyone knows I am a Mike Anderson fan. I also am trying my best to consider the basketball situation with a sober mind. I fully understand the mentality that thinks he isn't doing well enough to remain here. If Yurachek decided to fire him tonight, I would understand.
That being said, I don't think it will happen until after next season at the earliest. I'll try to explain why.
1. He has never had a losing season.
2. His high water mark (from two "lesser programs") are the Elite Eight and a brief #1 ranking. (This suggests he can achieve this and maybe more at Arkansas)
3. Until this season, Anderson's team is second behind Kentucky for total SEC wins over the back half of Anderson's tenure.
4. (Could be called 3b) This season Anderson has the youngest team in the entire country.
Now, we can throw out all of the arbitrary goal posts he hasn't hit we want, but at the end of the day when you consider the above 4 points, you end up with a situation where only an idiot of an AD would fire a guy with this resume. Especially when you consider the previous 15 years before Anderson.
I'm sure the seat is getting very warm, but next season will be the determination, IMO. It simply wouldn't make any sense to fire this dude. Not yet. Not while he has a tangible thing he can point at as the reason why he is in danger of his first losing season.
I heard it argued on the radio the other night that Yurachek may be persuaded to make a move on Mike because Arkansas got whopped by his Houston team.
Only if Yurachek is a complete idiot does that become a factor.

When Mike inevitably goes, you go with him.

Maybe, maybe not.
Hell, I may leave tomorrow. Who knows. Or I may stay until I get permabanned.
One thing I do know though, is that you aren't very bright.

I think most of us do like Mike and wish things had been better during his time here.
He's been here long enough without accomplishing anything of note to know that one more season isn't going to bring different results.
That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if he gets another season.

I mean, I don't think there's any question that he gets another season. I don't see how a responsible adult type in charge of a multi-million dollar operation could justify firing the dude at this point.
And this isn't homer talk. It's real talk.

Happens all the time in the real world. HY has to look at a lot of variables. That crowd was light tonight. Imagine what season ticket renewals will look like next year if Mike is retained.
We can all say look at what Mike did but what has he done lately? He hasn’t had an elite 8 in a decade. Young teams improve as the year progresses, of they are getting quality coaching, this team isn’t even a glimpse of the team it was in December. That’s on Mike.
Dude has lost his fire and needs to be shown the door.

Like I said in the OP, I understand the sentiment that wants to see him leave.
But I think I read in another thread just now about your "friend" who is a "razorback club president" or whatever, say basically the same thing I said.
What I'm telling you is that Hunter Yurachek isn't in a position to fire him. And you can "take that for what it's worth", but it's the truth.

Anderson has never been a great coach. He's a great guy, but at best an average coach. This has been obvious since he was an assistant for Nolan, but any coach with the ability to recruit good talent can get lucky (e.g. Guy Lewis). Some would say the same about Nolan, but Nolan was a better coach then they realize.
The PTB at Arkansas need to find a great coach and keep Anderson until that happens. Otherwise, we'll likely trade Anderson for the next Pelphrey or Heath. Maybe that's what they've been doing, but there's no sense in getting rid of Anderson, only to hire someone that'll make us want Anderson back.
When they find someone, make it happen ASAP, but do it while ensuring that Anderson receives the respect he deserves for his service. This should be easy, considering how everyone seems to like Mike Anderson.

Damn straight. This is the proper course of action, IMO.
Mike is doing a good enough job to hold the door for the next Nolan. And while we wait for the next Nolan, Mike is good enough to jump up and win some shite.
And really that's all I'm saying at this point. I like Anderson and I hope he wins us a title, but even if TPTB decide to get someone else, they would be foolish to just drop Anderson and then go looking for whoever it is to replace him.
Anderson is good enough to allow us to be choosey with our next coaching hire and that's a very good thing. Firing someone first and asking questions later gets you John Pelphry and John L. Smith.
And while Yurachek finds the new basketball coach, Anderson's team is gonna make a run. Next season.

If Mike wasn’t an assistant under Nolan he would’ve been gone last year. Too many of our fans have good old days syndrome and it drives me fricking crazy.

Sorry bout it, bro. Hope you get it all figured out.
ETA: I'll give ya a hand. Reality is actually the opposite of what you're thinking right now. You see, it's the "haters" that are stuck in the glory days.
If you'll notice, this thread is suggesting you REMOVE Mike Anderson from the past, and in fact remove the past all together, and consider Anderson's record for itself.
And his record is very good. Again, no losing seasons, #2 in the SEC over the last 4 years, etc etc etc.
So consider this post like an "Earth to Latrine" post of whatever. You've got it all twisted.

Awesome, tell me again how many deep tournament runs he’s made. That’s all that matters, the rest is fluff, but maybe you are a fluffer? Which is fine, you do you.

You can get personal all you want, bud. I don't care. I'm not gonna try and step on a legend's toes.
Maybe when things have calmed down some we can go over basic logic and leave insults out of it.

To the NIT maybe. His replacement for Gafford is a 5’9” PG that is going to play football

Lord knows how you got that from anything I said.
Why is it so hard to have an honest conversation these days? It's like people don't even know how anymore.

There’s really no conversation, he should be fired. Good talk.

If you actually believe Mike can ever have a successful team here at this point in his career, you are completely delusional and everything that is wrong with Razorback sports
