Yeah I guess for someone late first round it could push them to second round if the circumstances were just right

Is there a big difference in 1st round money and 2nd etc..? I don’t watch any NFL so I have no clue.

Signing bonus is the key thing to look at and I believe it cuts from around 6m in the end of the 1st round to about 3m at the start of the 2nd.

So maybe anyone projected 3rd or lower could come back with NIL deals matching it up?

That was a weird melt to wake up to.
By all means, do you. The only school of economics that actually is consistent in every circumstance is Von Mises' views on Human Action, i.e. everyone operates to their own incentive structure.
Is it good or bad? No. Very few things, if anything, in life universally is. But Burks is working with the best incentives for himself, both personal and monetary, as are you. But its not crazy to call those misaligned incentives more selfish as it relates to fans when what he potentially loses is in far greater magnitude to what fans would lose. Often times there is huge grey area as to relative magnitude, but this one seems pretty straightforward.
That isn't a paradigm that would suggest every athlete should opt out of the team the second they have high draft prospects, as then its counterproductive since many GMs will question committment. As with everything, there is a balance, but it seems foolish for anyone to question Treylon's committment (not pointing at you specifically).

Great economist - not a reference I expected from someone with a Bernanke avatar
Also not sure why people think I'm melting

Put some fricking respect on Bernank the Tank's name.

I am selfish. I want us to win our bowl game.
We are down 3 important players now. Burks, arguably the MVP on the offensive side (although it would hurt us worse to lose Jefferson.) Calvaruso eliminating just about all chances of returning a KO for great field position by opponents, and Ridgeway, who commanded double teams at times and set the anchor of our defensive line. All 3 will be missed against PSU.

Say it with me people:
"Burks getting healthy and improving his draft stock at the combine is BETTER FOR THE PROGRAM than anything he could do for us at the bowl game."

Had not seen he was skipping, since he is playing in the senior bowl.

The senior bowl is in the first week of February.

I misinterpreted the post I read. My mistake.
I do hate we won't have the other two then.

Do we know who PSU is losing, though? This could even out in the end.

Did Ridgeway say he was gone? I never heard anyone skip out on a bowl when given an invitation to the Senior Bowl. That would be counterproductive to his draft status.

Ricky The Steamboat Stromberg is returning next year.

How many are we going to lose on the OL? Wagner and Stromberg both coming back is great

Cunningham might be the only starter we lose.

Every one of us would do exactly what Burks is doing we’re we faced with the same situation. Nobody is stupid enough to not focus on maximizing the signing bonus.
Obviously that starts by not getting hurt, but Combine prep is a full time job and practicing for a bowl game cuts into that.

Probably why you see 98% positive messages. 2% will always just play for the love of the game (ie: never had talent at anything), which is like saying a plumber just fixes pipes for the love of running water.

Hear, hear. A professional athlete's career is usually quite short. For every Tom Brady lasting longer than a fart in a elevator you have a few dozen out of the pros in a couple of years.
Burks played hurt basically all season and still pulled off an incredible year. I'm fine with him taking the time to get healthy to increase his pay day. Without him breaking open games for us we'd probably have been fighting like crazy to get bowl eligible against Mizzou.
