K-State has jus ran them ragged. Quite a few self inflicted problems as well. Little bit of home cooking by the refs. Iowa State has been hit with 5-6 false starts, I’ve seen at least 3 on K-State they didn’t call.

Yeah, I haven't watched Iowa State at all until this game. It's only one game, but I haven't seen anything they makes me scream this is our guy.

Same. Making a decent team out of an historically bad program may get us to 5-6 wins, but we have folks talking 7 million a year. Not seeing it.

End of that game looked just like Bert Era. Team wasn't fast, made penalties, and got chewed up by K State.

As stated above, if that's a $7 million/year coach, I sure as hell don't see it.

Watched a little of FAU today as well.

Terrible home crowd, but team was flying around, especially on D.

I guess I will defer to almost everyone’s opinion about Campbell, but I’m just not seeing what makes him 6-7 million dollars per year good

I think we'll offer closer to $5 million, maybe $5.5 for Campbell. That's enough to give him a substantial raise and show we're serious about winning (since it's 1.5 - 2 million more than Chad), but still only puts him about middle of the pack in the SEC. I think Kiffin would get close to $3.5 million and both would get a substantial budget for coordinators.

I think we'll try to incentivize the buyout by adding goals to reach and start off with a much lower total than Chad and Bert. But then I think we'll go high on the years offered (e.g. Campbell gets a 6 year contract with guaranteed money, Norvell probably the same, Kiffin gets 5).

Good thing there's more than one game he's coached in

I think I make Norvell say no to 6 million per tops, then 4 tops to Kiffin, with incentives. If I don’t have a coach by then, I contact Leach.

I understand what your saying, but let be brutally critical of Campbell. I am no expert on him, but here is how I perceive him.

He's a guy that has done well taking over underachieving programs in weak conferences. He hasn't really won anything, but he does well at improving their records.

Just my opinion, but it seems like he's good at grabbing low hanging fruit and making a name from it. Sure, I think he would get us back above the Mississippi schools, just not sure he can push it any further. I may be way off base.

Give me Kiffin. Top notch recruiter and knows the lay of the land.

Kiffin may well be the answer. He comes relatively cheap, probably is the best recruiter among all the known candidates, and apparently wants the job. I just don’t see much success in his past.

You people saying Campbell wouldn’t be the best hire possible are fricking idiots. He is a grand slam hire and I’m a kiffin guy.

BTW, 247 dude also discovered a plane track from LR to Boca in the past 2 days and it's now on its way to Teterboro in NYC area.

I believe there is also a plane found coming from TEB to Fayetteville tomorrow.

So you don't like a guy who has built up two underachieving programs and is winning at a place like Iowa State, but you do like a guy who got his arse fired at USC?

A guy who has left his last 4 jobs on bad terms? Who lost his locker room so bad at USC that his players were fighting in the locker room at the Sun Bowl by year 3?

A guy who got fired a week before a NC game?

You Kiffin people amuse me.

I understand being drawn to the name, but I can't for the life of me understand why he'd be anyone's first choice. I wanted Bill Clark, but give me Campbell a million times before Kiffin.

I don't see how succeeding at Iowa State is any lower hanging fruit than trying to parlay success at FAU into another job.

Meh, I think a rational person realizes there are pros and cons that come with every candidate.

Campbell is at 7 wins in a weaker conference. Mizzou just fired a coach with 6.

If you watched that Iowa State game tonight I think you would also question the crazy amounts being thrown around for him.

They looked bad. Not because the other team was playing great. They looked sloppy and completely unorganized. That game was theirs for the taking, but they couldn't get out of their own way.

Like I said though, it's my only time watching him, but if that had been a one game audition I would lose his number.

What am I missing about him? Winning at Toledo, and making a decent team out of Iowa State? Is that it? Has he recruited tremendously well? Is there anything outstanding about his offense or defense? What is it?

Sounds like a hc already on the hill so he'd fit in well.

Winning at Toledo
Remember when Toledo came into Fayetteville and beat us while we were ranked with a backup QB? Yeah. That was him. That was a team with a senior Brandon Allen, Alex Collins, Hunter Henry, etc. They held us to 12 points.

We've been over this like a thousand times lol. Iowa State is one of the worst programs in the Big 12. You can call it weak, but previous Iowa State coaches have struggled with it and whatever conference they were in before the Big 12. Campbell is winning with less talent than basically every conference team he plays.

It's one game. They've also impressed me in several games they've played before.
