You're probably right, but is he THAT much better? His recruiting ability does worry me a bit, but his ability to beat teams with better talent and run efficiant O and D is his biggest attribute.

Like I said, I'd be happy with him, he's a hell of a coach. I just like what Lane could immediately bring.

Also feel that fewer current guys would leave with Kiffin as the coach.

With all smoke around Campbell as we reach the supposed end days of the search, is Campbell playing the Gregg Marshall role in this search?

What do y’all make of FB scoop claiming Campbell has already turned down FSU?

I think its Campbell. There is an lsu fan who earlier in the week being super frank about us hiring campbell, and it will be tuesday when he is announced. At this point my gut tells me we already have him.

Danny west on campbell
quote:

I've got a pretty good tie-in with Campbell who, as we reported weeks ago, said he'd definitely have high interest in Arkansas or any SEC job. The money would have to be there, and it would be there. I know what Arkansas is up against from a financial standpoint, but I also think they know it's really not as bad a situation as some might think. The money would be there, I have no doubts.
The thing about Campbell that I think makes him appealing is that, while you've got a lot of people thinking "Yeah but he's a Midwest guy and he's gonna hold tight until Michigan State or Penn State come open," a close friend of his tells me quite the opposite. According to this mutual friend, Matt is a guy who couldn't care less about logos. It's the reason he took the Iowa State job after they'd gone 3-9, 2-10 and 3-9 in the three years before he got the job. My guy says Campbell's main priorities include working for good people who love football, are passionate and supportive about their program, and have a great place to live. If that's not Fayetteville, Arkansas, good luck to ya.

Seems he must not feel that fsu was willing to support him the same way arkansas was, and from the reports of jumbo having to fight them over money. I'd say with the rumors we are ready to pay to win, and support a winner. I'd venture to say this is what sold him here over fsu.

Can someone explain why they think Kiffin is better than Campbell? And what makes him such a "great fit?"

Dont get me wrong, I would be happy with Kiff, but Campbell has legit turned Iowa State into a Big12 contender. I repeat: IOWA STATE. They have barely had a football program until Campbell brought them into relevancy.

On the other hand, Kiffin has had several chances at big time schools, and none of them have ended great. Remember, Ed O took his USC team to a 6-2 record after Kif was fired for starting 3-2.

Im not saying Kiffin is bad I just dont see how he is a far and away better hire than Campbell since Campbell hasnt really failed anywhere and Lane has

I just think Kiffin has had a bad shake at places. I think his fau stint is a better show of what he is than anywhere else. Also he has recruited almost 25 points higher than they do historically.

Campbell is james Franklin at vandy. He is going to win here. I just felt like kiffin could recruit better than campbell, and would finally matured enough to be who he should be here.

I'm happy with either. They have been in my top 3 all along. Norvell was in my top 3, but if we can pull a Campbell then I will say Matt rhule would have been my #1. Since he turned us down though norvell has slid back into my top 3.

Kiffin isn't better, if you ask me. I like Kiffin and had him #2 on my list, but Campbell is better. I have no doubts Campbell will do an outstanding job if it ends up being him. His resume speaks for itself.

I love what Campbell has done at ISU, but I just don't think he is worth the $7M price tag

I think what we'll see in the contract is that HY will pay a big salary, but no big buyout. Next coach will be expected to win and earn that money.

Those are good points. I think Kiff has been given some tough jobs and has matured some over the years too. However, I still think he is a bigger risk than Campbell. He may have a higher ceiling but I would prefer not to take a risk considering where we are. We have to get a guy that can be as close to a guarantee as possible to get us back to relevancy and not being the laughing stock of the SEC.

I full on Lane Train but if you can get Campbell, you take him because he is without a doubt the best coach we could realistically hire.

I guess I will defer to almost everyone’s opinion about Campbell, but I’m just not seeing what makes him 6-7 million dollars per year good. He is 26-23 at Iowa State, which is difficult, no doubt. But his best season there so far was his first, at 9-5. Second and third years 8-5, and he is sitting at 7-4 right now. I realize we are talking about Iowa State, but what am I missing that points to a home run hire for the SEC?

We’re talking about the Texass 12 here, which this year consists of Oklahoma, and Baylor.

HY and Fagg were absent from Bud Walton today.

Out there getting Mike Norvell locked down I presume.

You’re right. I was thinking about 9-4 Toledo second year.

Iowa St. Vs. Kansas St. is in the first quarter on FS1 right now if anyone wants to watch.

Looking like it will be more interesting than the LSU game.
