This is where there should be some hope. Don't commit penalties and don't turn the ball over. Don't beat yourself. Cleaning this up would go a long way.

2021 – Memphis 4.7 (16) – Arkansas 7.9 (121)

Penalty Yards Per Game

2023 – Memphis 40.1 (19) – Arkansas 52.6 (76)
2022 – Memphis 37.1 (13) – Arkansas 55.4 (77)
2021 – Memphis 38.2 (9) – Arkansas 62.4 (98)
2020 – Memphis 45.5 (35) – Arkansas 45.7 (37)

Giveaways per Game

2025 – Memphis 0.9 (15) – Arkansas 1.8 (118)
2024 – Memphis 0.7 (4) – Arkansas 1.9 (122)
2023 – Memphis 1.0 (17) – Arkansas 1.6 (93)
2022 – Memphis 1.3 (42) – Arkansas 1.3 (42)
2021 – Memphis 1.7 (98) – Arkansas 0.7 (5)
2020 – Memphis 1.8 (95) – Arkansas 1.3 (49)

Turnover Margin per Game

2025 – Memphis +0.5 (28) – Arkansas -1.2 (131)
2024 – Memphis +1.3 (2) – Arkansas -0.7 (115)
2023 – Memphis +0.6 (18) – Arkansas -0.5 (108)
2022 – Memphis +0.3 (42) – Arkansas +0.3 (42)

Silverfied is going to do better than Pittman
Morris left our program arguably the closest to rock bottom we’ve ever been. Pittman went 9-4, with an Outback win and finished 20th in the country in his first full season with that team. Should that be the standard for Silverfield?

I know, I know. One season isn’t a large enough sample size. But…..

I’d lean towards it should be close to the standard with today’s ability to retool a roster with the portal

Of course every school has the same ability & other schools are spending more. Pittman & Silverdong’s first season isn’t a 1 to 1 comparison with opposing teams being different now, but silver does have more tools at his disposal to work with. Bowl eligible at least should be expected.

Ryan Silverfield says Arkansas will wear the same exact suits on home game days:

“For home games, we’re all going to wear suits. In fact, every single player will wear the exact same suit. I can’t pick out their shoes, but I think, you know, I looked at pictures in the past and I love all these guys — they got more fashion than I do, I certainly understand that — but the players are all going to wear the exact same color suit and the exact same color tie. We’re going to play a game at the highest level for our great fans, so we’re all going to dress alike as a team.”

I like it

Interesting that we’re still poor by sec standards. Every off season I hear that we have more money but then when compared to what the cost of having a decent football team actually is you realize no we haven’t. We refuse to do what it takes to be good at football. You can hate the cost all you want but if the conference as a whole is going to be spending more money we need to step up or just bow out. The fact is you can’t compete in today’s age with just 20 million dollars it’s just not enough.

The team he inherited from Norvell had played in 3 consecutive AAC title games and won in 2019.

Norvell is a mixed bag at fsu, leaning towards a bust at the moment

Meanwhile other SEC & big 12 schools just hired AAC coaches with worse records than norvell had at Memphis. The same coaches a lot of Arkansas fans wanted & pundits say are a better hire than silverdong.

He went after the leadership next, specifically targeting players who volunteer to lead, only to complain later.

"Quit complaining. It's going to take all 121 of us, all 200 people in the building," he said. "If you can't stand up with your f***ing eyes open, then get out of this meeting. I'm done with the bulls***, guys. I'm not going to sugarcoat things anymore. I feel like I sugarcoat s***. Now, I can be the nicest guy in the world as long as we do our jobs. If we all do our jobs, we're going to have a hell of a season."

Eye opening moment for guys who were around for the Titboss Kumbaya sing alongs last season.

He also left us with one of the best recruiting classes we’ve ever had (on paper) before he was fired. But I agree that it doesn’t mean as much with how quickly you can turn over rosters now.

The thing is, we’ve still done a decent job at putting out pros recently. Kani Walker is a great example of someone who made an NFL practice squad but underperformed (like the team as a whole) while here. It’s not like we’re devoid of talent even if we don’t have what Texas or UGA have.

IMO the talent gap is overrated. Talent still has to perform. Penalties and turnovers have costs us success far more than anything else since Nutt was here. I’m hopeful Silverfield’s attention to minor details changes the culture.

This. We had 6 one-possession losses last year, even while being one of the worst statistical teams in regards to penalties and TO margin. There’s been enough talent to not be a perennial doormat.

Some of the best recruiting classes on paper wasn't highly rated.

The Lord is my Sheppard, I shall not want. Nay, though I walk through the valley of being a razorback fan I will not get my hopes up on this team. No matter the green pastures that my new headcoach makes me feel are ahead of me. Amen

IIRC Arkansas was ranked in the top 25 on paper based on recruiting sites last season.

They obviously finished in the bottom 25.

This year has them outside the top 25 by the same metrics.

Indiana wasn't last year and isn't this year anywhere near the top 10.

Coaching still matters. Maybe Arkansas will have it this year as it was obviously lacking last year.

It's been a coaching problem since Petrino wrecked his motorcycle.

Pittman averaged 5 wins a year. If Silverfied can average 7 wins a year then he will have a long stay here.

That doesn't seem like that big of a jump but it is significant.

In the future, Arkansas should set a goal of finishing in the top 25 each season.

Arkansas could have had quite a bit more top 25 finishes had they not had so many late season collapses or early season losses to some G5 teams.

That has to stop.

Watching Idaho vs Utah.

Utah isn’t to impressive.

Idaho is getting jobbed by the refs.

Eta: as I say that utah has an obvious muffed punt, Idaho recovers, but refs give the ball to Utah and replay confirms, even though the guys fingers bent back when the ball hit it.

Utah scores quick and goes up 17-0
