Who is elite and what makes them such?
Give names and descriptions that have nothing to do with recruiting rankings.
Dude come on. We lost a fluke iron bowl with our BACKUP QB. It was an unfortunate season, but get a fricking grip.
The only teams that have talent on par with us are OSU, LSU, Clemson, and Georgia. Period. That makes us elite, and we have another top class coming in with the #1 QB in the country.
If you want to criticize coaching, that’s fine, but saying we don’t have elite talent is asinine

Bama isn't off track.

Will Saban get Bama back on top? by uofarolltide
Sorry but this is ridiculous. We’re still an elite program filled with elite talent. We caught a bad break this season. If Tua hadn’t gotten hurt we would’ve punched our playoff ticket today, with a good chance to win it all.
We’re going to be better on defense next season. Joe Burrow and Jake Fromm are both gone next year, so winning the SEC is totally within reach, and that means being back in the playoffs.
^this^ x’s eleventy billion.
Also Eli, the TiC comment about Sabans time spent on the AFLAC commercial...

Exactly. If you weren't around for the Dubose era were BAMA started the season ranked Top 3 and only won 3 games, you dont know what real decline and disappointment is.

Anyone else thinking losing Kirby to Georgia started this decline? That is when recruiting started to falter a bit. Sure it took a few cycles, but recruiting is usually done years in advance to signing day, it takes a few years.
There are a lot of elite talent at Georgia from the 17-19 classes that would be at Bama if Kirby had stayed.
Bama still had all the defensive studs from the 13-15 classes that carried Bama through the 16 and 17 seasons. Defensive recruiting took a big dip when Kirby left.

Losing Pruitt had hurt Bama more than Kirby.

But now we’re getting beat on the recruiting trail as well as in the field. We’re not the top recruiting team anymore and it’s starting to show.
Meh. We have the #3 class in the country right now. That's plenty good enough to win championships if you can actually coach them on the practice field and in games to the standard that we have been able to in the past.
Two tears ago, both Texas and USC had higher-rated classes than we did. How much good did it do them?
Clemson was rated #7 two years ago. What's the difference? When they get to Clemson, they actually get coached, both on the practice field and in-game.
Our recruiting has been just fine and will continue to be.

It might be time to put some feelers out to Dabo to see if he would come home. If he says yes, we need to move before he changes his mind.

Losing Pruitt hurt more, because when we lost Kirby, Pruitt was available. If he hadn't been, who knows where we would have been?

Well, you're optimistic, if nothing else.
Our run game returning is in the worst shape it's been in the last 12 years. Except you're probably factoring in guys who haven't even taken a college snap yet. I wouldn't.
We have one elite WR returning, and a few guys who combined for less than 5 catches this year. Waddle will be a lot easier for defenses to take away.
You know, when I was young, I used to think there was some magic associated with the crimson jersey.

The #3 and 4 teams in recruiting two years ago were Texas and USC. Coaching is everything.
Also, recruiting rankings don't measure football IQ. We've clearly had a disconnect between talent and performance. Maybe some of it's been on coaching, and maybe some of it's been on some kids not having what it takes between the ears. And no, recruiting rankings don't measure that.

i get a kick out of people thinking dabo will leave his cakewalk to the cfp, to come to the grinder that is the sec west.

All of you are forgetting we still have a gaping hole the size of the Grand Canyon at ILB and it doesn’t look like we’re going to fill it. It sounds like Demouy Kennedy who was an in state kid that was going to be one of the answers got flipped to L$U last night with one of their strong arse offers.

Ive been around since the Perkins years, so dont give me that B.S.
I just so happen to be honest with myself and you people about the slow trickle, and I do not want another long period of famine after Saban retires.
Is anyone going to answer my question or no?

They get coached by a staff that hasn't had any continuity issues and don't merely see their job as stepping stone. Dabo is a goof ball but he's created a culture at Clemson where coaches and players want to stay. Meanwhile our guys view Alabama as a mechanism for something greater.

That goes for you too RTRinTampa. I was there for ALL the bad years, so you can take that bullshite and eat it.

Also, where did I say we didn't have any elite talent? I simply asked who and what makes them elite. If the question is answered HONESTLY without crimson goggles on, the truly elite players on this roster are the skill players. And that's a problem.

It's kind of unknown, I'll give you that. But if Trey Sanders is as good as people are saying, we will be just fine.

If Saban doesn’t clamp down on these guys and get back to the fundamentals of blocking and tackling and mental discipline (13 more penalties last night) we aren’t getting any better. I’m amazed that some of you who have seen Saban’s entire tenure and even longer don’t see the erosion that’s taking place since 2nd and 26. I don’t know what Saban needs to do to get there, but he’s got to get this thing under control before it gets away from him completely. This isn’t a 1 year aberration, its not all due to injuries and playing freshmen. This is a distinct decline in The Process or actually not following the Process and the results show.
