I think it started before then. Remember, we were down to Keith Holcombe at LB against MSU that same season and almost lost that one, if not for Jalen.

We've had great QB play since 2016 and it's hidden issues elsewhere.

I think Pruitt leaving hurt us a lot more than it originally looked

I love the man but I think the best days for Alabama under Saban are over. It happens to the best of them.

And we can’t identify and hire a capable replacement.

I can't give you an answer. Based on recruiting rankings, Skyler DeLong should be an elite college punter. Instead, he lost his job to a walkon.

There is a serious disconnect, especially on defense, between talent when they get to Tuscaloosa and the performance on the field. To me, that's a coaching issue.

It's kind of unknown, I'll give you that. But if Trey Sanders is as good as people are saying, we will be just fine.

You're also apparently assuming great things from our OL. I'm not.

The trick Malzahn used on him at the end of the game to draw the penalty is a bad sign.
No way AU was gonna go for it, up 3, in their territory on 4&4.
Can't fall for that gimmick in that situation.

I'm assuming that they will be serviceable, like they usually are.

Someone mentioned in another thread that they feel we get hurt by signing 3-and-out players that have to play early, versus balancing that out with developmental players that can stay 5 years. I can definitely see that.

I also think its time to make tweaks to the S&C program. Or revert back to previous tactics if we've changed things over the last few years. The recent injuries are very concerning.

But now we’re getting beat on the recruiting trail as well as in the field. We’re not the top recruiting team anymore and it’s starting to show. Kirby and Pruitt have hurt us on the recruiting trail and now resurgent L$U has decided to go all in and pre$$ their advantage while they have one. The NCAA ain’t gonna do shite. I think the run is over. We’ve fallen from elite to good but not good enough. This is going to be a 10-2 program going forward.

It might be time to put some feelers out to Dabo to see if he would come home. If he says yes, we need to move before he changes his mind.

If Dabo sees that we are willing to move on from Saban at this point in time, there is no way in hell he will give up his Clemson godhood to potentially get fired in 4 years if Bama doesn't win a championship

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but I kind of have doubts.

Doing so will require a total revamp of defensive scheme and personnel. Good offenses have overtaken Saban’s scheme, and the defensive coaches can’t even get the players to line up correctly.

I guess we’ll be fine of offense, but putting up 86 points in 2 losses is way beyond concerning.

Shut up Auburn fan.

Meh. We have the #3 class in the country right now. That's plenty good enough to win championships if you can actually coach them on the practice field and in games to the standard that we have been able to in the past.

Two tears ago, both Texas and USC had higher-rated classes than we did. How much good did it do them?

Clemson was rated #7 two years ago. What's the difference? When they get to Clemson, they actually get coached, both on the practice field and in-game.

Our recruiting has been just fine and will continue to be.

Lets also not forget what Bama did in 2008 and 2009 without a stockpile of #1 classes

Bryant, Bowden, Dooley and so on. It happens to everyone. And it’s happening to Saban and don’t be naive thinking it’s not.
I’ve heard ppl say he’s earn or deserves the right to stay until he’s ready to leave. Maybe so... But you understand there’s a price to be paid for that kind of loyalty and allegiance to a head football coach.

Can Saban right the ship? Myself... right now, I really don’t know. But we will all know the answer I’m guessing in the next two years. But right now... He’s on the clock.

Exactly.

What's missing? This:

2008:

Burton Burns
Joe Pendry
Kirby Smart
Jim McIlwain
Kevin Steele
Bo Davis
Lance Thompson

Most of those guys were around in 2009 also, along with a couple of other guys who did a good job.

Like everyone I am frustrated buy all the penalties and seemingly lost players on defense.I realize some of them are young but is it really that easy to scheme a team into stupidity? Coach Saban is a smart man so I know he has to see all the problems but how did he let it get this bad? Are the old coaches he brought back over the hill or are some of these players just low IQ and can't learn like they should? I have faith in Saban and can't wait to see what he thinks the solution is for the program going forward. And ROLL TIDE ROLL !!

We are 2 years removed from a national championship, 1 year removed from an SEC championship right and are in the midst of a 2-loss season, one to the 1st or 2nd best team in the country with the likely Heisman winner at QB and the 2nd was on the road against Auburn.Z

Sure, we need to improve in areas - Saban said it seconds after his 1st NC - success breeds complacency. But who do we think is a better option to achieve that improvement?

No doubt, the poaching of our assistant coaches has been brutal.

There are huge fundamental flaws that we have seen in our past 5 big games which have only gotten worse. Penalties, undisciplined assignments, and overall softness from our defense is unacceptable and will continue to cost us games unless they're fixed.

Best bet is not to extend Saban's contract and hope he gets dissatisfied with less than 11 wins per season. At the same time, better hope there are HC candidates, a strong pool to choose from. If not, rather promote Sark as a short-term band aid then seriously lock up with some one who's a big time question mark ala Miami with Manny Diaz.
