I was living in Huntsville at the time. Spent the day in a closet with my son, who is now a sophomore at Bama. Coincidentally, he lives on 15th in an area that was hit by the tornado.

It's been 12 years. I can't believe it's gone by so fast.

I was near the intersection between 15th and Kicker (basically behind Target). I don't think about it too often these days, but seeing 4/27 on the calendar always brings everything back

I was in school, had to go down to the basement of Moody Music Building to wait out the storm. Sat by the elevator shaft and it sounded like the doors would blow in.

I was on Grace Street at a buddy's apartment, Preston Place. I lived in the Preston Place on Reed Street, but on the 3rd floor, and his apartment was on the 1st floor so he let me take cover at his place.

We saw the tornado on local news coverage, and the power went off seconds after they showed it. Went outside and the sky looked so crazy, you could see the wind vortexing. So we ran back inside and got in the bathroom or one of the middle bedrooms and smoked a bowl as it passed.

Didn't even realize(couldn't have realized) the scale of the destruction until the next day when some friends and I walked to where it went through on 15th, McFarland and the surrounding hoods. Never seen any shite like that in my life. Hope to never again. The whole thing really changed me as a person, for the better I believe. Made me appreciate how precious, fragile, and fleeting life is. How quickly bad shite can happen and turn everything upside down.

Lived in a house on 13th St E back behind the old Hobby Lobby kinda. We were tucked away in the back of a neighborhood with the railroad behind us. Safe to say, house got destroyed. I was at work thankfully.

It barely missed my mom's house, not hearing from her for 4-5 hours was excruciating.

For those interested, I made a thread on the OT for the Tenth Anniversary of April 27, 2011 a couple of years ago that provides a detailed synopsis of the day and also provides links to online resources about the event and videos from most of the significant tornadoes that occurred in Mississippi and Alabama that afternoon. Other posters also contributed stories, videos, and other resources throughout the thread.

Here is a link to the thread: LINK

I was in my fraternity house near there and we walked up to the roof and saw the tornado as it was crossing 15th street. It was one of the most sobering experiences of my life. I remember seeing entire roofs floating in the air.

When I was little, my family lived there. In 2011, I went to my grandmother’s house in Mayfair (15th street and loop rd) after a senior design II class because she didn’t like to be alone during storms. It was a good call to be there instead of Alberta at the time.

Do I know you? Lol. I lived at Preston Place on Grace Street on the 1st floor.

I was at the law school. It was the eve of 1L finals, and so the entire law school was full of people studying when it hit. Definitely close enough to hear it, and debris from over on 15th street pelted the law school. There were boards stuck in the ground vertically in the law school back lawn afterwards.

Once we found out 15th street was hit, a bunch of us went to help. There were a ton of our law classmates who lived in that area due to proximity, including now Senator Katie Britt. The campaign story about her house being obliterated is legit.

It's certainly a day I will never forget.

Yeah, when my dad was in law school we lived in that little neighborhood right behind the hospital. That neighborhood got absolutely leveled. So, you guys at the Law School were indeed sitting right next to it.

I was living in McCalla at the time. As the tornado came out of Tuscaloosa its projected path had it going directly over my house. Fortunately for me and my family, but unfortunately for others, it veered north and missed us by a couple of miles.

I was living at Lake Tamaha and ended up driving back home to South Alabama right before it hit. Y’all can correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t another tornado touch down a few days before? I remember being stuck in Gorgas for a while.

A tornado came through south Tuscaloosa on April 15th I think. It was the same day I went to see Panic in Bham.

I was there. I lived in Crimson Condominiums between where Krispy Kreme once was and the train tracks. Sad times but encouraging to see the community come together. Met Scott Cochran and some of the players a few days later volunteering for clean up.
