Cons: He is a mercenary, make no mistake and is 100% in it solely for the money and nothing else.
He's even worse of a mercenary than people think.
He has played for 6 different teams in the last 7 years, going back to his freshman year of high school, and now he is looking for a SEVENTH!

Um, what?... Jahmyr Gibbs averaged 6 yards per carry here and went in the Top 15 in the NFL Draft the year after B-Rob left.

You’re correct in everything you said. Sears is killing our pace and launching threes early in the shot clock and missing. It was evident from the second game he was holding our offense back. He’s still a heck of a player but point guard he’s not.
Zero issue with him launching early threes in the shot clock. He's a 38% career 3 point shooter. If he shoots his averages against Purdue and Oregon, we are undefeated.
He isn't taking threes that we don't want him to be taking. He has just been in a slump so far for whatever reason.
Agree he may be better suited as an off-ball 2-guard once we get into the half court set.
Sears seems to be having a lot harder time getting to the rim than he did last season. He was actually REALLY good on the blow-bys and finishing strong at the rim last year for an undersized guard. His ability to get downhill has been subpar this year. That is a mystery.

One thing I haven't heard anyone talk about is the potential for UNLV to make the playoff. They're 10-2 & are only a 2 pt underdog to Boise Saturday. That would truly be wild for fricking UNLV to get a first round bye in the playoffs.
What does the committee do then? UNLV would be 1-1 with the same record as Boise St.
If UNLV/SMU win:
1. SEC/Big Ten Champ
2. SEC/Big Ten Champ
3. SMU
4. Big 12 Champ
...
12. UNLV
Boise Out
If UNLV/Clemson win:
1. SEC/Big Ten Champ
2. SEC/Big Ten Champ
3. Big 12 Champ
4. Clemson/UNLV
...
12. Clemon/UNLV
re: Can we please have an honest conversation about Kane Wommack's defense?
Posted by DLev45 on 12/2/24 at 1:36 pm
Anyone still ragging on the defense is still just mad about the Vandy game and has let bias cloud the judgment for the rest of the season.
1. Western Kentucky - 0 pts
2. USF - 16 pts (only TD started on Bama 39 via Jam Miller fumble)
3. @ Wisconsin - 10 pts
4. UGA - 34 pts (good team, still green secondary, stepped up with late INT)
5. @ Vandy - 33 pts (clunker here, no doubt about it)
6. USCe - 20 pts (would have been 13 if Bernard didn't score, got late INT)
7. @ Tennessee - 24 points (Defense got 3 1st half TOs that Offense turned into 0 pts)
8. Mizzou - 0 pts
9. @ LSU - 13 pts
10. Mercer - 7 pts
11. @ OU - 17 pts (second TD started on Bama 14 because of Milroe pick)
12. Auburn - 14 pts
This is despite:
1. Losing EIGHT starters on defense from last year (Dallas Turner, Chris Braswell, Justin Eboigbe, Koolaid McKinstry, Terrion Arnold, Caleb Downs, Jalen Key, Trey Amos). Only Lawson, Campbell, Malachi, Keenan, and Tim Smith were even contributors last year. That's a HUGE amount of losses.
2. Running a completely different scheme.
3. Losing 3 of the few veteran players we have throughout the season (Keon Saab, Q Robinson, Deonte Lawson).
4. Playing multiple true freshmen in the secondary out of necessity (Zabien Brown, Jalen Mbakwe, Red Morgan, Zavier Mincey).
So... we lost damn near the whole defense, installed a brand new scheme with brand new coaches, assembled a secondary made entirely of true freshman and transfers (except for Moore), and ended up with a Top 15 defense...
And that's somehow a problem and y'all want to fire the DC?!?!? You've got to be kidding me. Turn off Finebaum and get a grip.

Based on the rankings if we beat Auburn which should happen,
USCe beating Clemson would move us up to 12.
And 12 does is zero good.
We have to move up 2 spots to #11. Need Clemson loss to USCe plus another non-Boise upset:
Purdue over Indiana
Cal over SMU
Syracuse over Miami
Vandy over Tennessee
USCw over Notre Dame

The rant is heavily saying Bama is in at 12 but that can’t be right isn’t that for the conference champ left out of the top 4?
Using the current AP Poll as if it was the CFP Rankings, this is what the playoff would look like right now.
1. Oregon (10-1)
2. Texas (10-1)
3. Miami (10-1)
4. Boise State (10-1)
5. Ohio State (10-1)
6. Penn State (10-1)
7. Notre Dame (10-1)
8. Georgia (9-2)
9. Tennessee (9-2)
10. SMU (10-1)
11. Indiana (10-1)
12. Arizona State (9-2)
1st team out - Clemson (9-2)
2nd team out - Alabama (8-3)
3rd team out - Ole Miss (8-3)
4th team out - South Carolina (8-3)
5th team out - Iowa State (9-2)
#12 is going to be the 5th conference champion slot.
We would have to jump up to #11 to get an at-large.
South Carolina beating Clemson would only move us up to the first team out, and that's only if SCar didn't jump us.
We would probably need 2 losses in the Top 12 to have any shot.

Dude. It's a really, really long season. And they are mixing in 3 new freshman and 2 transfers. This isn't college football. These losses don't matter right now and actually make the team better. Be ready for more of them. Maybe Illinois, maybe North Carolina, Houston and Creighton.
They will be good when it matters in March. I would argue they don't even have their 2nd best player in Youngblood and won't have him until mid to late December.
It will be ok. Give it a minute.
There is zero reason to be melting about a 9 point loss @ Purdue when we're still figuring out rotations, the shots aren't falling for Sears, Stevenson is ice cold right now, and we don't have Youngblood yet. This was not a schedule designed with any intentions of going undefeated.
Everyone is railing about Jarin Stevenson, but much more disappointing and concerning from Friday long term is Oats deciding Aidan Sherrell was only worth 3 minutes when TKR goes for 26 points in the low post.
Stevenson's shots are going to fall. They haven't been bad shots. He has had several go halfway down and pop out. He just needs to see a few go in. Him being being 0-13 from 3pt through 4 games in November doesn't effect our ceiling January-March whatsoever. But Sherrell being unplayable most certainly does.

This shows how much you know.
Milroe was 18/24 for 310 yards passing against Vanderbilt. We scored 35 points and had the ball less than 18 minutes.
Vanderbilt was his 2nd best passing game of the season behind only UGA. Milroe's play didn't have shite to do with the Vandy loss.

If UGA beats UTk and finishes 10-2, how do they not go over us?
If every favorite wins every SEC game from here on out, this is what the final conference standings would look like:
1st Texas (7-1)
T-2nd Alabama (6-2)
T-2nd LSU (6-2)
T-2nd Georgia (6-2)
T-2nd Texas A&M (6-2)
T-2nd Ole Miss (6-2)
T-2nd Tennessee (6-2)
With all of those 6-2 teams, you can throw any head-to-head results out the window.
It goes to SEC opponents' winning percentage, and we have the tiebreaker over all the other potential 2-loss teams at the moment because we didn't play Miss State or Kentucky, the worst two teams in the league this year.
Teams that played BOTH Miss State and Kentucky:
- Texas
- UGA
- Tennessee
- Ole Miss
Teams that played played Miss State, but not Kentucky:
- A&M
Teams that played played neither Miss State nor Kentucky:
- Bama
- LSU
That's why in the doomsday where there is an 7-way tie of 6-2 teams, the SEC Championship Game would actually be an Alabama/LSU rematch!

It was bad, but I don't know that it was THAT bad. lol
In the 12 years since:
1 National Championship
1 SEC Championship
1 SEC Runner Up
9 AP Top 20s
6 AP Top 15s
2 AP Top 10s
2 Heisman winning QBs
They did go from a perennial Top 10 team to a perennial Top 20 team after that game, but their last 10 years would still be the best 10 year stretch ever for half the SEC.

I'm curious if DeBoer wanted to bring in Mack because he was losing Sayin or if he wanted to bring in Mack because he thought he was good enough to bring in even if it meant pushing out Sayin.
Might sound like sour grapes but I would rather have Mack than Sayin. He's already got a year in DeBoer's system.
Mack doesn't turn 18 until June, and already has a year of college development under his belt before his 18th birthday.
Sayin turns 20 in November. He is a full year and a half older than Mack.
KDB's making Mack a take, even if it pissed off Sayin, is starting to make a lot more sense.

Austin Mack - Tall with an intermediate level release. His release point is close to on par with that of Simpson but with his height an intermediate level release, his release is much quicker than that of Simpson and slightly better than that of Lonergan. Quieter body and feet in than Simpson in the pocket but not quite as clean as that of Lomergan. Arm strength is on Par with Simpson and better than that of Lonergan.
When I watched the tape of Mack and realized the classification issue, it took a lot of the sting out of losing Sayin to the portal, for sure.
Mack is 6'6 with good mobility and can definitely rip it. 3500 yards with 40 TDs and 5 INTs as a junior in the classification he played in is pretty damn good, so I was puzzled as to why his rating was lower. But then I saw the stuff about him skipping his senior season to reclassify into 2023 and go to Washington a year early.
Mack would have likely been a Top 5 QB in the 2024 class had he not reclassified. Mack is actually a year younger than Sayin, and already has a year of college development in the KDB/Grubb system under his belt.

Yes, because Williams and Quinton Reese are the only ones that didn't sign in December.
None of the December signees have asked out of their LOIs, and Ryan Williams has been on campus this week.
