2 titles. No one else has done it. You're right, he was just "solid" but he was a playmaker too.
1 alone doesn't get you there--ie Jay Barker. Or GMAC.
But both of those QBs did lead Bama wire-to-wire to undefeated NCs. Barker had a horrendous champtionship game tho
McCarron has 3 titles

I have zero doubts that AJ would put up some insane numbers in our modern offense.

This is a really weird thread. I really don't know what you're trying to say here.

Not many QBs walking around with 3 NC rings...2 as a starter, 1 as the backup.
No matter the individual talent, it's all about winning championships.
Mac, Tua, AJ, Snake, Namath...top 5 in some order.

you really giving him 09?
Does that mean Bryce young gets 2020?

Barker had a horrendous season. The only two games where he showed flashes was at Vanderbilt and at home against Ole Miss. His totals for the season were as follows:
132-243 (54.3%) 1,614 yards 7 TDs 9 INTs
And those numbers were considered mediocre back in 1992 and don't include the two interceptions he threw in the Sugar Bowl. Barker didn't become an actual play maker until 1994.

I don't give McCarron '09. He redshirted that year. Bryce Young at least saw action this season.

If Greg had had to leave the game against Texas AJ would have burned his redshirt and come into the game. Every player on a team has a role in winning a ring, even if it's just as a practice warrior.

And I hate it when so called fans rip up Bama players who gave all they had for the team. Tua couldn't help that he got hurt. Of course, I loved Jalen too. Hated he had to transfer.

I guess all the non-starters, 80+ players, should just throw their rings that don't count away. As mentioned, everyone on the team has a role to make the team better... even if it's as a glorified tackling dummy.

Yeah, but AJ still has three rings. Period.

Sloan led them to 2 titles; split 1964 with Namath who was injured that year. Namath, Spurrier and Sloan were all-SEC QBs.
(A quaint stat: in the first game of the year Namath tied Harry Gilmer's Alabama completion record with 16 :-))

quote:Not really. Steve Sloan and AJ are the only QBs to start and lead Bama to 2 NCs. Neither are top 5 in talent. A supporting cast is everything. Barker won a NC in 92 but was not even half the QB he was in 94. AJ was a good QB but is not Namath (won 1 NC, shared with Sloan), Stabler (who never won a NC), Tua, even Mac, Starr who played on winning and losing teams, Todd, likely others. He has a special place but he is not as effective personally as some others. He had 2 great NC games. He threw a great deep out. Jalen has a place, Coker, Shealy, JPW, both Rutledges, Terry Davis, Pooley Hubert, Dixie Howell, Harry Gilmer, Riley Smith, et al.
Mac, Tua, AJ, Snake, Namath...top 5 in some order.

Someone tell Tua he doesn't get credit for the 2017 NC since he wasn't the starter lol.
If someone asked AJ how many NC rings he has, he'd say 3... because it's the truth.
If they asked how many did he win as the starting QB, he'd say 2... because it's the truth.

So what if Tua wasn't there? AJ McCarron wasn't there, Jake Coker wasn't there, Blake Sims wasn't there, Brandon Avalos wasn't there
