true, but he did not start the game. therefore he does not count. he gets no ring. he does get a shirt that says, "my team won a natty in miami and all i got was this shirt"

He played more you did. He practiced all year with the team, went through the grind of this season, was part of a special group. He deserves to be called a National Champion.

Bryce Young didn't have to start the 2nd half after our offense scored 0 points, with 3 of 8 passing for 21 yards in the first half, and proceed to throw 3 tds for the win. Instead, he came in the last series and handed off a few times in a game that was over to the tune of 54-24. I would liked to have seen him run the entire offense for a series or two, but I am confident he will play well next season.
Like a relief pitcher that comes in with his team losing, though, Tua deserves every bit of that win vs UGA.
at least I think that was the point to which I responded. If I responded out of the intended context, sorry about that.

That’s the dumbest statement I’ve seen around here in quite some time
Congrats

i was just joking. the truth is, the players win it on the field, practice field, weight room, film rooms, first team, second team, third team, scout team, coaches, trainers, dr's, nutritionists, equipment managers, ga's and more.
anyone that thinks the "starters" are the only ones deserving of a championship ring, needs a new set of glasses. because they have a serious issue with short sightedness of the word "team"

So the original poster is implying that Tua is a bit mercenary.
I think Tua is an ok dude. I think the family is a bit mercenary.
But you go to Bama to enrich and benefit yourself. So we are going to get some mercenaries early on.
Here is my list of all time QBs
Mac Jones
Stabler
Namath
Tua
McCarron
Todd
Jeff Rutledge
Jalin
Scott Hunter

quote:Corrected. I mistyped. Gary Rutledge was the 1st of the 2 brothers to win a national championship for Bama. He won his in 1973 (UPI) and Jeff won his in 1978 (AP).
Did we win two titles in '78?

Jeff was the pro. He played over 10 year's in the league as a backup.
Gary his brother was older. He was a great triple option guy but wasn't as good of a passer as Jeff.

That is *exactly* what I was implying. He delivered the punctuation to 2017 in 1/2 of football. The greatest 1/2 of football, and the greatest play in the history of Alabama football.
The rest was just stats. We don't do stats. I value the wire-to-wire champs more.

you really giving him 09?
Does that mean Bryce young gets 2020?
Yeah I’m giving him 2009. He was the backup and there is a ton more involved with getting the team ready to play each week then what you see on the field. He was a member of the team and contributed.

1965 Steve Sloan
1964 Joe Namath
Namath and Sloan split QB in 64 - Namath was seriously injured (beginning of his knee problems that would plague him throughout the rest of his football career) in the 4th game vs NC State. Sloan started 6 or 7 games, Namath 4 or 5 and Sloan finished one of Namath's starts and an injured Namath finished or starred in 2 or 3 of Sloan's starts. Namath, Soph Spurrier and Sloan each were All-SEC QBs, 1st, 2nd, 3rd team or something like that.
In summary: Sloan definitely deserves co/QB status in 1964. He actually started more games than Namath because of injury, though Namath was the star.
