frick OU!! I wanted that last score. I hate those bastards and the way they play. They will trot another kid out there at QB again next year that will put up the same stupid numbers against the same shitty defenses and Fowler and Herbstreit will suck him off too. Like they’ve never seen it before. I hate what they call football

Yea the ball hawking needs to be improved but im glad we got to play OU first. I think they are more difficult to prepare for and like our chances for Clemson with 10 or so days to prepare.

Yeah, Murray is good, but the only thing he really adds to the OU system is his wheels. They could plug a jug machine in back there and have it put up 4000 yds passing.

To all the people saying Surtain sucks .... He played heck of a game for a freshman

Murray stuffed the stat sheet. Lots if garbage time runs though.
One great throw on the 50 yarder and one great run on the 3rd and 13.
Otherwise we played conservative with a 3 score game

He didn’t play a good game at all. Regardless of class. He will have more chances against Clemson though.

Surtain didn't look like himself out there, a little sluggish, at times -- like maybe he's ill with a virus or something.

I don't think he played bad...but I do think he needs to look back for the ball...he was in good position most times but never looked back...and at least twice, Lamb got away with pushing off Surtain, including the TD...

That sluggishness you see is called PTSD. He got his shite pushed in so many times that he was freezing up out there unsure of what to do. I think the young man is very talented and will learn from this traumatic experience but tonight he got schooled and began to doubt himself and it showed. He just needs to learn from it, man up, and make up for it in Santa Clara.

Look up in phase and out of phase before bringing this dumb shite here
Surtain isn't looking back because he isn't in phase and back shoulder throws are designed to exploit that.

Alabama’s win over OU was the 55th for the Tide’s senior class. The group has a record of 55-3 (.948), won two national titles and three SEC championships, & has appeared in 5 CFPs. They surpass Bama’s '17 SR class (53-5; .914) for the most wins by a senior class in NCAA history
This is unreal. I never thought that I would see anything like this with scholarship limitations

Bite me. Several of our CBs under Saban have had issues with not finding the ball whether it's a back shoulder throw or not...
And when the WR is allowed to push off, it doesn't much matter if the CB is in phase or not...

Because they weren't in phase.
quote:
Although Saban is known for having one of the most complex defenses schemes to play against, he has a pretty simple philosophy for how he wants defensive backs to defend opposing receivers, whether to play the ball or the man.
He explained it without too much coach-speak during his radio show last Thursday: “There were several occasions last week [against Florida International], where guys should have played the ball and they didn’t. That’s something [where] if you can see me on the sideline I’m always going to be yelling at them, ‘Why didn’t you play the ball? Why didn’t you play the ball?’ “Let me explain it to you this way: There’s two positions you can be in when you’re defending a receiver. You’re either ‘in-phase’ with him or you’re ‘out-of-phase’ with him. Now, . . . ‘in-phase’ means that you’re pretty much even with the guy [as he runs straight downfield], but if you can see the guy’s number nearest [to] you, you’re in-phase when you’re covering him down the field. So when he gets through the move area — the move area defined being 14 to 18 yards down the field where the guy’s going to break a route in or out — we play a lot of closed coverage, [i.e.] we’re in bump-and-run a lot; we’re in that position with the guy when he gets in the move area. Now, if you’re in-phase with him when he gets into the move area, you should be become the receiver and look for the ball. That’s what you should do, and then the ball has to go through you.
“If you’re in the out-of phase position, which means you can’t see his near number, you can’t be even with him, then you have to play the guy’s eyes and hands for the ball because you’re not in position and if the quarterback throws it correctly [on a fade type pass] you’re not going to be able to get to the ball — you’re behind him too far.

The major problem I’m seeing is they are in bump and run coverage, but I’m not seeing any “bump”.......

We ran a ton of pattern match with man to man and in those cases the DB's often are not lined up in bump and run, instead backed off slightly and shuffling with the receiver.

Same. 52-34 would’ve looked and sounded better.
