Kentucky only plays 7-8 and seems to be playing its best ball down the stretch of the season

Cal also schedules 2-3 big time OOC games and 10 games against the little sisters of the poor every year. He can get away with that because of the name on the front of the jersey though. 18+ Ws is basically an automatic bid for Kentucky regardless of their schedule. I don't know how Oats is running them in practice, but if they don't have anything left in the tank to actually get through the games then he needs to either ease up the intensity at practice or schedule some more garbage OOC opponents every year so our best players aren't run into the ground by February.

I guess you could use dead legs as an excuse if this just started happening, but we haven’t shot well all year

Yep.

Quin shot 43.3% from 3 last year, this year he's shooting 24.4% and averaging 1.7 more 3 attempts per game. Shack has been a consistent 34-36% from 3 throughout his career at Bama. Keon is shooting 35% from 3. Holt is averaging 8%. Which is higher than I expected, considering his release is flatter than Taylor Swift's arse. JD only makes 3s when the games out of reach or we're playing a top 5 team. Gurley is a bust shooting 27%, and that's getting a lot of open looks. And if Rojas shoots another 3, I'm gonna start kicking puppies.

Hey guys. I’ve been on a self-imposed exile from the Rant. Hope you guys are well.

It is obvious the team has talent. Auburn bball has WON GAMES this year they had no business winning.

To have 9 losses with this lineup is inexcusable in my opinion. 5 or 6 tops. But 9?

I like Nate but his handling of this team is just bad. His press conferences suck. Just an overall lack of execution from a coaching perspective.

I just to give Reese shite for absolutely never making a 3 pointer ever, but man what we would give to have somebody with his heart out there this year.

When 100% of your offense is either shooting 3s or trying to get an easy bucket under the basket, and you shoot 3 for 30 from 3… you are going to lose to everybody you play.

Teams have us figured out and only have to prepare for the two or three plays that we run on offense.

We basically suck on defense. Nobody knows how to draw a charge anymore and we foul ever other possession.

The guards last night got penetration to the bucket but wouldn’t challenge UK defenders at the basket and just dribbled through to pass for a contested 3

LOL…they haven’t figured us out. The offense is getting the looks, kids just aren’t making shots.

We were 8th in offensive efficiency before last night averaging over 81ppg against the toughest defensive schedule In America. Better than last year and probably the best offense in a good 15 years

GTFOH with this

I think this year we have seen the major flaw of the Oats system - if you don’t have consistent shooters you won’t have consistent results. We are not a team able to win multiple ways which is concerning for ever trying to make a deep tournament run. Shooting is unlikely to be there for six straight games, especially in the basketball-unfriendly arenas you play on deeper in the tournament.

Of course this year I’m just worried about actually making the tournament.

THE OFFENSIVE SCHEME ISNT THE frickING PROBLEM.

It’s shooting and Defense that are the problem

The thing that hurts most about the loss last night to me was we rebounded extremely well and played like a tough team. We did what we needed to win in 2 big facets, but our offense was just pure shite. That’s not what I was expecting going into the game. I thought as long as they didn’t abuse us on the boards, we’d win. It does give me hope that we can compete in Lexington.

You’re right.

Davison driving to the basket 39 times per game and either turning it over or passing it out to somebody for three is incredibly difficult to defend and I should be ashamed for making such a statement.

Frick off.

You do have to give credit to Kentucky for the defenders and commitment to assure that every single three Shack took last night was heavily contested.

They also had help sagging on drives which meant they basically just dared 2-3 of our players on the court with open 3 point looks anytime.

Gurley, Gary, Rojas, Holt and JD and even JQ on many occasions could get open looks pretty much anytime.

The degree that falls on Oats is not the offense failing from a Xs/Os perspective but either a personnel or mental/confidence one.

The mention of Reese is a good one because even though his 3PT percentage was never great, the only few teams that ever tried leaving him completely open paid the price.

I'm really not even down in general since the team played hard and competed on defense/loose balls etc . . .

However, it is disappointing that the main "fix" is as elusively simple as 2 or 3 players shooting well enough that the defense has to guard them.

The problem is not Oats’ system, it’s that he doesn’t have enough shooters for the system. Now he put the roster together so maybe he gets a little blame there. Shack, Ellis and maybe Miles when he’s in there are really the only ones that scare you shooting the ball. Q has been awful. Teams will let Gary, Gurley, Rojas, Holt, and JD shoot all they want.

What’s sad is that I would have bet a LOT of money that we could make at least 4 if we pulled up 30 times before crossing half court, buzzer-beater style.
