You’re right. Davison driving to the basket 39 times per game and either turning it over or passing it out to somebody for three is incredibly difficult to defend and I should be ashamed for making such a statement. Frick off.

Lmao, you responded to his comment by arguing about our defense when he was shredding your comment about our offense being “figured out”

Also, if you really wanna be all pissed about the defense, Charlie Henry coaches and schemes the defense bud

Sick and tired of the "hard to win if ...." quotes from Oats. This team just is not good at much things.

Have to go 2-0 this week. If we do, and we’re sitting at 16-9 (6-6), I’ll feel a little bit better.

Was talking to some people about this season and basically at this point it feels like as fans we know what we have and it’s about just making the most of what we’ve got at this point. We know we have an inconsistent team that can beat or lose to anyone which can lead to a round of 64 exit or a Final 4. Just gotta hope for the best with this team, and then revamp our roster next year and get back on track. One thing I’m sure our staff didn’t expect was losing Primo. That kinda shocked us all. Then on top of that Nimari gets hurt and Tchikou ends up sucking and your roster isn’t as good as you’d maybe hoped. This off-season will be fun to watch and see how our staff handles things. Next year’s team should look almost brand new.

I don’t think reading comprehension is your strong suit, bud.

I feel pretty confidence in my reading comprehension. Just funny how your argument about our offense got shredded, so you selectively chose to ignore your argument getting shredded, and go on about our defense (which Ill give you and say it has been inconsistent as well), which is coached by Charlie Henry as I stated.

quote:

Teams have us figured out and only have to prepare for the two or three plays that we run on offense. We basically suck on defense. Nobody knows how to draw a charge anymore and we foul ever other possession.

Here’s your exact quote juuuuust incase you forgot, and then go look back at your response.

I didn’t catch a minute of the game but am curious if their defense just shut us down or did we have a bad shooting night (open but couldn’t hit)

I have it recorded but is it worth watching in any way?

We missed a good many open 3’s, but also took some dumb contested 3’s as well. We missed enough open 3’s to where we probably would have won if half of them dropped.

I wouldn’t go back and watch unless you have some drinks to go with it.

I wouldn't watch it unless I was a coach looking for things to improve.

Their defense was good. Very physical and concentrated on not giving Shack open looks and helping on drives.

They basically just dared anyone but Shack and Keon to a lesser degree to shoot.

We were around 2 for 25 on threes while the game was still in the balance with mainly just the 5 or 6 Shack shot being all that contested.

Their defense was certainly good but ours was more than good enough to win or take it to the buzzer if we'd simply made even 20-25% of our open shots.

I said teams have our offense figured out.

He went on a tangent about how dominant we are on offense and told me to GTFO.

I responded sarcastically about how Davison driving to the rim and dishing it back out was hard to defend.

I’ve mentioned nothing else about OUR defense since my original post.

I think you might need to take a deep breath and step away from the keyboard for a little bit.

Im not upset in the slightest lmaoo, I’m not even apart of your original argument.

I see what you’re saying, but it just looked reaaally selective what you responded to, even though I agree with you about Davison. However, our whole offense isn’t Davison, so it was looking kind of like a cop out answer to me to just say the whole offense is figured out bc Davison hasn’t contributed nor played anywhere near what was expected.

They were giving Rojas open looks, which was smart, considering he didn’t draw rim on 3 of his 4 attempts

Well if you run a scheme that heavily relies on shooters and you don’t have them, How long before you blame the scheme? Blaming players for not making shots is easy. If we can’t shoot threes why are we taking thirty-plus a game? Adjusting scheme to talent is the coach’s job. Good coaches don’t just complain about talent and throw the year away.

What we have this year is a coach for who wont look in the mirror and make any adjustments. We aren’t good at what we do, but by god we are going to keep on doing it. That make a hell of a lot of sense, doesn’t it? 25 games in and all the sudden we think these guys are going to start making shots? Maybe for a game or two.

Final 4….ugh no! This team should be fighting to get a bid. A win in Oxford is no guarantee with this group. A final 4 run would require consistent play and some new shooters and skilled bigs.

People keep talking about changing scheme.....to what? Are you guys under the impression this team would be good at running motion and making 16 footers? Running plays through the post? Taking the air out of the ball?

We missed 27 3s last night, but we also missed like 8-10 shots at the rim that were good looks. We tried to get to the rim last night. It didn't work. We were bad at it. Outside of Bediako we were 11/30 from 2PT. That's absolutely horrid. Our guards were 6/20 from 2. So driving the rim was attempted. It failed spectacularly.

There is no magic bullet. This team just isn't that talented or diverse offensively and relies heavily on 2-3 guys making plays. And those 2-3 guys are very streaky.

We badly needed Keon to become a high level, high usage offensive player this season and he just refuses to be one. Without him doing that, JQ and Shack are left with almost the entire burden of offense. Gary, Bediako, Holt, Rojas, etc just aren't offensive players that are able to be anything but role players making plays because of Shack or JQ. Miles is somewhere in between, but not nearly consistent enough. And JD is what JD is.

Last night was pretty simple. Cal had his guys focus on a couple of things defensively that were the only way we win. Shack and Keon taking uncontested threes and Q getting to the rim. He knew if we had to win by a group of bad shooters hitting shots, we'd probably lose.

And I don't know about changing the scheme but I would like to see us mix in more half court offense through the post. We're struggling getting to the rim and finishing anyway. Let's get some passes to a post player and see if we can score around the rim that way, get to the line more or kick out to our better shooters from the post.
I'd rather do that than watch JD or Q dribble for 15 seconds then force a drive and make an awful pass to someone like Rojas.

Yea, I mean I guess it's worth a shot at this point, but I don't trust Gurley/Bediako/Rojas to catch on the block with their back to the basket and do much in terms of making a move for a shot or drawing a double. The only one I really trust to do that at all is Gary.

I mean I know the results right now are frustrating but we don't have good post players offensively. We could throw shite at the wall and see if it sticks, I guess. But it's not like, in general, offense has been the biggest problem until last night.

I understand. Just think I'd rather see OUR bigs trying to work around the basket than shooting threes. Maybe Rojas could at least hit the rim or draw a foul. :)
