This might be Saban's worst defense at Bama.

Considering we're about to play a stretch of weak teams then LSU after a bye, and LSU's offense is garbage, I don't think it will be.

Our LBers need some coverage work but other than that it was QB runs that gave us issues. I think we can correct this. Plus, I don't think we'll see a more mobile QB until possible games in the SEC Championship and/or the playoffs.

This is a Bama team that is by the eye test clearly the best in the country, in vegas favored by double digits over any team ( LINK), has the best offense the school has ever seen with a heisman candidate QB, being lead by the greatest coach ever and we still are looking for things to worry about. The D will be fine.

We can and we will. If not late this season, then next season both Mack and Dylan will be improved. We overestimated the little bit of experience they got last year. They're both getting the hang of it out there and learning by doing. If Mack comes back, and right now I think he will, then those two with this season's experience and an offseason of work and commitment will both be playing at an elite level in 2019.

All part of Saban's process. The day he fields a perfect team with no holes is probably the day he retires

The sayings over the years have been, "The offense is going to have to step up and win a game".
This year it really is the opposite, where we gonna say, " there's gonna be game where the defense is going to have to win it for us"

Only weakness is our LB in coverage. Our secondary is good and so is our D-Line/Pass Rush. Mond improvising with his feet was really the only thing that consistently worked for them

You nailed the issue so far - LB play. Both of those guys are talented, it is just taking longer than what we are used to for them to know the defense inside and out.

I’m thrilled with the young DBs. Seriously, they are going to be special. The D-line is kicking azz as well - stopping the run and with the sacks.

The defense is about what I expected coming in this season. Tons of talent, lots of play makers but clearly a lot of young guys still putting it all together.

They just missed some of those tackles that let Mond get big gains, a few poor angles - probably underestimated his speed.

Worst defense for Saban at Bama is a little harsh after four games, it was never going to be 2015 / 2016 level this year with all the new faces and talent lost over the last few years, but could still come together for a very strong unit by November / postseason.

and so is our D-Line/Pass Rush

It's functional, not great. The interior push is good (Buggs is a beast). But our edge rushers are a couple of JAGs. Anyone can get pressure when blocking assignments are blown. But neither Miller or Jennings on the edge are players opposing offenses need to game plan around.

Understand, we are measuring this group against the Alabama standard. I am by no means saying this defense is bad.

This years defense is a lot like the 2010 defense. Tons of talent, but really young and thin at a few spots.

Difference this year is that we have an outstanding offense that can overcome the defense taking time to ramp up.

Let's not forget we also have a rookie DC learning the ropes. We'll be fine. No one will outscore us.

Terrell Lewis would help with our pass rush now. He would have have got Mond on the ground for a couple of his big runs I believe. Same goes for Chris Allen.

Jimbo's a good play caller and is familiar with Saban's defense...he gave us multiple looks and used the tight end to exploit us over the middle...A&M's first TD was a two TE look and McKinney went with the first TE after Mack had already taken him, leaving the other wide open over the middle...stuff like this'll get corrected as we've got four weeks to get our defense honed up for the stretch run in November...barring injuries, we should be fine...

That would go to 2014

2016 D gave up 40 to Ole Miss

We are fine

The D looked nasty to me...just gotta clean some stuff up. I'd be more concerned with our lack of running game. Ppl don't realize that this Texas A&M team is the 2nd best in the west. They beat the barn, LSU and Miss St this year. UK might be tough for them...
