Not because it's needed to get the best champion.

But it would be good for the game. All the conferences would get in.

The non-power five darling would get in.

And there would be a couple of at larges, so Bama would probably never miss.

I like the fact that it would spread the excitement. Late season games would also mean more.

You could have the first games 1v8, 2v7 played on the higher seeds campuses. That means an EXTRA quality home game each year.

There WILL be an 8-team playoff. Gotta run through the contract on the current format, though, which I think is maybe four more years?

As far as good for the game? I don't know. I think why so many people love college football is because the regular season is so special. There's no way to expand the postseason that doesn't diminish that. Now you're like every other sport.

It will expand for money, though. There is no doubt.

No. I honestly think it should be a 3 team playoff, with the 1 seed getting a bye.

There hasn't been 4 elite teams in the playoffs yet.

Well the only real playoff would be the final four.

But it would bring excitement to the campuses and make those end of year pac 10 meetings actually mean something.

I'm fine with it - we'll get in every year and pretty sure they'll want it to be 16 with a cap on how often you can be in it

As long as everyone understands that this would mean losing at least 1 game a year. Likely a non conference hime game.

So we would lose the Murcer game for a home game with USC or Texas in Tuscaloosa.

Nope. Pass

Can’t wait for every other year when the Final 4 has 3 SEC teams

I like the idea of expanding but they need to incorporate 1st round byes to incentivize the entire regular season. 12 teams (top-4 get byes) with Power-5 champion auto-bids, highest ranked Group of 5 champs, and 6 at-larges sounds fun.

#8 Cincy versus #9 UGA, winner plays Bama

#5 A&M versus UNC, winner plays ND

#7 Florida versus #10 ISU, winner plays Clemson

#6 OU versus #11 Indiana, winner plays Ohio State

We are going to get expansion and everyone is going to hate it . Most if not all of the added games will be blowouts. Then this school should have gotten in debate will lose some luster because must of us don't care about whether Texas Tech should get in over Utah.

Nope because money would take over and the quality of the game would go down. It would guarantee that the P5 CC would be in whether they deserved it or not. I do not need to see an 8-6 Wisc B10 champ in the playoffs.

It would water down the game and still not give anymore incentive then what we have now. Even now are already tired of seeing lackluster games in the semis.

Over the last 10 years the Big 12 has only had one team finish with only 1 loss and multiple champs that would not make the top 8 in the final poll. The PAC12 no team that has won the conference all have at least 2 losses. Again with many teams outside of the top 8.

As long as you have conference tie-ins and P5 commissioners dictating who goes it will not change anything no matter how many spaces opened up in the playoffs. The people in charge do not seek to put the best in the playoffs. They seek a way to make the most money. So any decision behind expanding will be done so to generate more revenue for the elite P5 and will not guarantee anyone else a spot at the table.

It’s gotten worse then that. A lot of people want ALL conference champions to get auto bid. So you could have an unranked 8-5 MAC champion get in over a 11-2 SEC or Big10 team. And that would happen quite frequently. And then you consider the frequency of blowouts right now in the playoffs, and that these lower seeds (like an 8-5 team) would be playing the top seeds (like top 3 ranked teams). You’d be seeing blowout galore that nobody would care to watch.

While we are spitballing, I think FCS should keep football in the spring and make one of their games be a "money" game against an FBS team wrapping up spring practice. Let's make this happen.

Then you would have to remove one of our championships then

If it helps keeping the bowl games relevant then yes. The opt outs are getting out of control and making some bowls worthless....FLA/OU as an example. If an 8 team playoff keeps the best playing the best, I'm for it

So we can watch ND, CIncy, Costal Carolina, etc get murdered all over again by power 5 teams?

This attitude, while ultimately correct, is not the right answer. The health of the sport is at stake and, as of right now, college football is very sick. Expanding the playoffs will (at the very least) give good G5 teams the illusion that they have a shot at a national championship.

I think this is a little overblown. It wouldn't matter if USC, Cincy, and Texas A&M were in this year. Maybe the first round of games would have more viewership, but the finals would've been the same. Everything is cyclical, and right now there is a cycle of really mediocre play out west. When they figure it out, eyeballs will come back. Until then, I hardly think a multibillion industry can be considered sick. It might have the sniffles.

There are few decades where college football has ever had genuine parity, and this idea that the sport needs to be fixed could've been exhausted during those times as well.
