The Times article notes that the NCAA doesn't like to use postseason bans as a punishment any more.

Yeah because because it impacts ad revenue for Disney and Fox which collectively run the sport.

When we were down, no fan base mocked us, ridiculed us and kicked us harder when we were down. Piss on those giant walking bags of pus for all eternity.

If this was Bama involved with this case, the NCAA would skip probation, they would call for a nuclear missile strike on Tuscaloosa and turn the entire area into a giant, smoking, radioactive crater for all eternity.

UT on the other hand, will deny, deny, deny and lawyer up, and in the end, get nothing in terms of penalties. Mark it down.

It is known that Alabama tried to recruit Nico but we faded down the stretch. Maybe Saban is the Secret Witness to the NCAA like Fulmer was back in the day. Would be a big parting gift as he walks away into the sunset.

To be fair, the barn’s six year streak was a direct result of the sanctions. Having to deal with them was worse than UT.

UT was directly involved with our NCAA woes, with Fulmer being the secret witness actively trying to destroy our program. It would be true karma if UT's program were nuked by the NCAA, but it's unlikely, given the historically cozy relationship with each other.

Probably depends on where you live. I can verify TN was not a great place to be during football season. We went through a lot up here lol.

Cole Cubelic ripping UT Pres and AD. Cubelic said what I have been saying. UT self reported and threw their head coach under the bus solely to get out of paying millions of dollars in termination pay. That is all the self reporting was about and now to make these statements that you are not going to cooperate again, is total BS. Just making political statements to get their alumni base behind them.

Cole and Greg had a Tennessee beat reporter on their show on WJOX yesterday. His stance was that the NCAA was investigating Tennessee in a desperate attempt to remain relevant, and that the case had no merit.

Greg asked a question that seemed to throw the guy off-kilter for a bit: Are any of the leaders / owners of Spyre Sports Marketing boosters of Tennessee? The reporter started down the path of "Well, what is a booster, really?" and Greg held his feet to the fire, asking if the owner of Spyre gave money to Tennessee. The reporter said "No," but it seemed evident to me that he didn't really know the answer; he was just following his script to show the case had no merit.

That's the crux of the investigation, to me: If Spyre has a direct connection to Tennessee, then flying Iamaleava in to Knoxville for a recruiting visit is a conflict of interest.

As a side question: When did beat reporters become open homers and cheerleaders for the teams they cover? Any semblance of being unbiased and impartial has gone completely out the window for some of these guys. They're just paid mouthpieces for the teams now.

Missing you, Cecil Hurt.

NIL or no NIL - boosters flying recruits across the country in their private jet has always been a violation. It's obviously against the rules.

Honestly, I'm not chomping at the bit to see UT go down - I just want this pay for play nonsense to stop. $8 million for a HS kid defies all logic. Backup QB's in the NFL only make half a million a year.

F THAT!!!! We got penalized for student athletes selling their textbooks and we got in trouble for a guy signing a napkin. There have been much worse for years from all over and nobody gets the crap we get. Nah I want someone else to feel our pain and if that happens to be one of our main rivals, who by the way got us on our worst probation, than that is the icing on the cake.

The NCAA isn't going to do anything. They will no longer touch SEC teams for fear of the SEC leaving the NCAA and taking the Big Ten, Big 12 and ACC with them.

Alabama needs to give a FU to the NCAA and officially start claiming their vacated and forfeited wins again.

The ncaa is those teams. Its not some rogue organization that exists out there on its on. Its the member schools. The problem is the member schools are not doing anything to solve the problems. It appears that if congress wont help, then the only thing that can be done would be to structure it like the nfl and have salary caps. But there would still need to be rules related to recruiting, or you have a draft, which nobody wants.

Do people actually think it will be any different.

The issue right now with in CFB is NIL and the free agency the transfer portal has created. Their hands are tied in many ways regarding both. Many of the teams in these conferences are just taking advantage of it. You honestly think it will be any better. Or that any team trying to become relevant wants to abolish the current model.

The NCAA still has the power and authority to deal with illegal recruiting. If conferences ended their membership it will only get worse.

Someone explain how Bama had to vacate wins over a few library books, and Michigan doesn't after being caught cheating on a conspiracy level as a program going all the way up to the HC ? And get a title during the cheating season. Bama had to change the way we were calling plays from sideline specifically because of concerns Michigan had our signs. How does the game go if the coaches make the calls like they did all season ?

Bama seriously needs to reclaim those victories- WTF Is the NCAA going to do about it ? NOTHING.

When Penn State got their victories reinstated after the Sandusky scandal, every other team who has ever vacated/forfeited games should have reinstated them.

I can answer that, I spent 8 years working deep behind the enemy lines in that cesspool. They’re alumni & boosters who saw an opening once the NiL was passed.

You mean once the NCAA realized they were late to the party and could not prevent it. Even those calling for the school to come together will not prevent.

The Alston case only stated the NCAA does not have the authority. At this point though I do not think any of the parties outside of the athletes can do anything about it. The players are in control now and they are not going to give up any opportunity for money. And the schools like UT and a&m who are trying to become relevant will spend as much money as they can.

The UM investigation is nowhere close to be over and the UT which I am not even sure has received a NOA is just beginning. Not sure of the outcome but I truly believe the NCAA is making sure it has its ducks in a row to deal with the situation to move forward.

UM backed down at the last hour to not fight the NCAA on CJH last 3 game suspension. Even CJM was adamant and bragging about how he could not wait to speak on the stand. Then everyone on their side shut it down and did not say a word. As if they did not want to dig the hole deeper and trying to demonstrate they were cooperating. I also think CJH leaving may have been agreed upon by both him and the college.

Regarding UT I believe the leak came from them. They jumped the gun because they knew something was coming down the pipe. I think the NCAA was collecting evidence and they found it. Donde grandstanding to me shows panic trying to get out ahead of it. No reason for their stance unless something had them worried.

The NCAA is in a situation of now or never with both these cases. They make them stick it survives if not CFB will just move to paid athletes and a minor league for the NFL.
