And, this DC hire is the pivotal hire.

Pure conjecture, but I wonder if this has anything to do with Pruitt being unexpectedly cleared or something.

If Grantham was considered by Saban this move is saying that someone (hopefully it's Pruitt) got the DC job.

I'm still a little surprise that we can't pull Schumann from UGA. I get that he has been Smart's righthand man for a while, but getting a full DC title, pay, and coming back to your alma mater should be a good pull I would think.

I’m under the impression if it was going to be Grantham then we would’ve already heard that he was hired as the DC. Just my 2 cents

Think the DC hire is 10x more important than the OC hire, as long as we have someone competent as OC we are going to be fine. The DC hire needs to be a homerun and needs to change the mindset of the D. Grantham was not going to do that

I can deal with Rees, I've been much more concerned with our DC job through this process. Offloading Grantham has me so happy.

We need to get back to where our defense is a machine and is what wins games for us, not offense.

Defense wins championships, it was true for us when Saban got here and it's true for Georgia now.

Y'all keep overlooking loyalty to Kirby. Kirby has invested greatly in Schumann. And, Schumann's career trajectory isn't better at Bama than UGA. I have to be honest.

So now that Grantham is out, and it seems like Pruitt isn't happening, how do people feel about Ansley?

He was DC under Pruitt at Tennessee, and DB coach at Bama while Pruitt was the DC, so I imagine he could be Pruitt-lite until Pruitt's NCAA issues get cleared up?

Ansley definitely has coaching chops. Otherwise he wouldn't have been able to get his foot in the door in the NFL with no prior experience at that level and then get hired by another franchise after the UTk situation blew up.

It's just a question of whether his ability to coach DBs translates to an ability to run an entire defense. I'd also have some concerns that Saban would do the same thing he did to Golding and force a career DB coach to coach inside linebackers.

Good points. Seems like it'd make sense for Armstrong to coach the ILBs if Ansley were to come back, but I know Saban wants his DC coaching ILBs.

Damn, Grantham turned us down. Embarassing.

Rather than spending money on a big time DC. It’s time to extend Hodgson. We are definitely a BBall school now.

Championship or Bust.

I can dig Ansley and Karl Scott. Karl Scott coaching DBs for Pete Carroll and having previous experience with Saban would be my first choice.
