This is the ideal scenario, we've got a great backup, definitely Tua/Hurts situation that Mack can come in and win a game if needed

Maybe I'm badly underestimating Mack, and I hope that's the case. If the reports of both of them being ahead of Ty at this point are true, then that's obviously great.

Going with Milroe in 2023 instead of just suffering the growing pains with Ty is the only time I can think of that Saban's reluctance to be decisive with the QB position early in the season probably cost us. Then it spilled over into DeBoer's first season and cost us again. He should have pulled the trigger on Tua over Jalen earlier than he did in 2017, but not in August. I can't think of another season where the obviously better option was on the bench though.

Edit: I'm happy with the choice. Don't misunderstand... Just saying that this might be a tough pill for Mack.
Keelon is the media favorite. Of course he was going to start. Real slap in the face to Mack though. Mack transfers here with coach and gets no starting job in two years. Media darlings keep beating him out. He'll ball out somewhere else next year.

This is ridiculous. Mack was promised nothing from DeBoer for transferring other than a chance to compete. He got beat out by a first round NFL QB and the highest rated recruit ever to come to Alabama. There's no shame in either.

True... Not saying Russell isn't the right choice. I'm just saying it might be a tough pill to swallow. I'm sure he'd transfer out to a smaller school and probably start next year.

It’s also the best move for the present. There is already a big gap between the two. Not only that, Keelon “comes alive” when the lights shine the brightest. Yes, he will make mistakes and he will grow because he has room for improvement but he has very special talent that goes beyond his physical skills. As i said somewhere else, IMO, only injury or arrogance can derail him.
Importantly, the entire team is energized by his selection because they know he is special. Also, they see that the coaches have made the right choice in doing what is best for the team.
Mack is good but is unfortunate to never really have had a chance, IMO. As I stated in another post, he and his family are a credit to the program and the University. I’m not saying this as some sort of consolation or patronizing nor have I met them but have heard those who have.They could not have been more complementary about the family, their conduct and presence. His dad is an airline pilot IIRC.

Keelon Russell has the potential to be like Deshaun Watson at Clemson. He's a pocket passer that also happens to be an elite athlete. If we can just be average at OL, we're going to cook on offense imo.

What are you basing this on? I'm not saying he isn't deserving. I'm excited about KR. Just always curious where opinions like this come from.

Saban really only had two legit qb contraversies. 2014 and 2016. Every other year, it was pretty clear who the starter would be.
