I'm definitely not saying Jacksonville is some hotbed for racial disharmony, but a couple years back we still had a Forrest high school, named for Nathan Bedford Still glad to see someone with a positive view of the 904 and our residents. I've had your experiences many times, so you aren't way off base. It's just we don't normally get mentioned in this manner

Up to 9 Million Californians Could Lose Power in Biggest-Ever Rolling Blackouts
Ok after reading this it makes more sense. Hopefully everybody will be ok if they have to cut power. I don't think I remember this much regional hate in my lifetime .

I feel bad for them. It was 109 degrees at 3pm today when they were supposed to be saving electricity..

The state of Alabama has voted for Republican presidential candidates since the 60s. Has that elevated the state?
Nevermind that this is false, but only a moron thinks national elections have this much effect on a state. When did Alabama start electing Republican state governments? Not just governor. When did Alabama start reliably electing a Republican state House, Senate, and Governor all at the same time? When you figure that out, then you'll know what has truly held our state back.
ETA: Alabama didn't start sending a majority Republican delegation to the federal House and Senate until the 90s, and did not start reliably voting for Republican presidents until the 80s.

Isn't that a tweet about voluntary energy conservation during a heatwave? Doesn't seem so awful.
The list is sent out every year by the power companies in the Western US.
Consecutive days in the 100s plus wildfires:
Here are some effective ways to conserve energy during this time period:
Turn off lights
Turn off pool pumps
Unplug appliances not in use
Avoid using large electrical appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines and electric clothes dryers
Adjust the thermostat to 78 degrees or higher to reduce the use of air conditioning during this time, barring any medical issues, and use ceiling fans to cool people and pets. Pre-cool your home prior to 2 p.m.
Keep the refrigerator and freezer closed as much as possible
Close window coverings to keep the heat out
Do not charge electric vehicles between 2 and 9 p.m.

It's more of a nuisance. I was in Santa Cruz, last year, when PG&E started the blackouts. It's more due to their failing and antiquated infrastructure than it is to prevent the fires. Plus, it typically only affects the rural areas. I went to meet some people in an area named Santana Row in Silicon Valley, which has their own power grid, and it was life, as usual.

So the wealthy urbanites have one life, while everyone else is left to eat cake and get their hair done outside in the heat?

The last Democrat to win Alabama was Jimmy Carter in ('76). Once the national Democrats became the party of civil rights, Alabama said to hell with them.

Yeah, but George Wallace was hell on wheels. "In Birmingham, they love the governor." We still sing about it at BDS.

Democrats largely controlled the Alabama governorship until 2002, and they controlled the Alabama legislature until 2010.
Don't ever let a fact get in your way, though.

What are you talking about? The Democrat party has never been and still is not the national party of civil rights. They were the party of slavery. They were the party of segregation and Jim Crow and they are today the party of the new plantation. They were the ones who filibustered the passage of civil rights laws. They opposed bussing. They destroyed the black family by throwing them into the welfare plantation where they could be easily controlled and manipulated for votes.
Let me issue you a challenge. Get the black population to vote republican for one or two cycles, and you will see exactly how the democrats feel about you. Remember what happened to the blue collar workers in 2016? A formerly reliable voting block for democrats, whom they once called “The nation’s backbone” suddenly became just a bunch of racist, xenophobic, sexist, blah, blah, blah deplorables. Isn’t that strange? Doesn’t that tell you something? Let blacks become republicans for a cycle and they will start talking again about how you “need to be brought to heel”. Look at what happens to those who get off the plantation now! Democrats refer to them as “coon”, “Uncle Tom” and “House N*gg*r”. Come on man! Wake up.
The Republican Party never changed its stripes. Southerners began to see past their blind allegiance to a racists party and saw that the Republican Party actually supported their patriotic and morally conservative views. The democrats in the 70s became associated with Communism, anti-Americanism, anti-God, amoralism, poor economic circumstances and big government inefficiency. Regan used the big government‘s stifling of business and personal Liberties to destroy the Democrats not just in the south but nation wide. No one in the Republican Party has ever indicated that it had exchanged ideologies with the democrats on race. The Democrat Party has all by itself decided to lurch far leftwards. That was the genesis for the switch.
This “Great switch” facade that the democrats want to perpetuate is a transparent myth that depends upon people blindly accepting an oft repeated lie. You can speak the truth to them.

Previously, Southern politicians were always New Deal Democrats in the manner of FDR. Big government was great if that meant spending on big infrastructure projects like the TVA and other programs that benefitted the region. Its when the divergence in the party over segregation that you saw them start to espouse conservative, small government principles which really meant maintaining the status quo as far as civil rights go. Big government was great when it was brought investment dollars that advanced the region....not so great when they began sticking their nose into societal questions. You saw the cracks post-WW2 when segregation was beginning to be addressed by Truman who was considered to be very progressive (for his time) and the diehards and deadeners formed the old Dixiecrat Party.
They became reliably Republican in the 80's with the Reagan revolution and Reagan really coopted a lot of what George Wallace and Goldwater were preaching in the 60's. Reagan put a smooth Hollywood pitchman sheen on the message and the political positions. Republicans saw Wallace's significant support in the upper-midwest Rustbelt and blue collar segments in places like Chicago, Boston, and NYC when he pulled a significant amount of the primary vote among blue collar voters ......voters who had been considered reliably Democrat and didn't like the society upheaval of the 1960's. Wallace would never be accepted on a national stage because of his segregationist past and Goldwater was considered a dangerous loon but Reagan co-opted a lot of this message and rode it to overwhelming victory. Alabama supported Carter in 1976 because he was a son of the south and had the populist touch but Carter got crushed in 1980 and the South reliably Republican ever since. Despite the success of Carter and Bill Clinton, the Democrats and the South have been riven internally since the late 1940's.

Everything gets semi-normal for a while and then there is always the predestined partly coherent explosion . Skynet becoming self aware is unavoidable, Judgement Day is inevitable.
