It all started to fade when Scott Cochran left.

How many quaterbacks ran over our defense when he was there?

How many times did you see our defense get trucked by a qb last night?

We are weak.

When Scott Cochran ran Alabama’s strength program, the entire identity of the team came from the weight room. He built offensive and defensive linemen who were as close to factory-made first rounders as college football has ever seen. During his time, Alabama produced seven first round offensive linemen: Andre Smith, James Carpenter, Chance Warmack, D. J. Fluker, Ryan Kelly, Jonah Williams, and Jedrick Wills. On the defensive side, he turned out four more first rounders in Marcell Dareus, Jonathan Allen, Da’Ron Payne, and Quinnen Williams. That is eleven trench players in twelve years. Those guys weren’t just talented recruits. They were physically transformed. Cochran’s room emphasized raw power, heavy lower-body strength, violent explosiveness, and the mental edge that comes from being pushed past your limits. That is why Alabama could run the ball whenever it wanted and why the defense could suffocate opponents at the line of scrimmage.

When Cochran left and the sports-science model replaced him, the difference showed up almost immediately. The training became quieter and more clinical, built around load management, speed tracking, and injury reduction. The players looked faster, but they did not look or play like the old Alabama bullies. And the NFL draft exposed the truth. Since Cochran walked out the door, Alabama has produced only one first round offensive lineman, Evan Neal, and he was recruited during Cochran’s tenure. There has not been a single true defensive lineman drafted in the first round who developed entirely under the new system. The assembly line that once produced monsters simply stopped.

That is why the program’s physical identity faded. You cannot bluff the line of scrimmage. You cannot out-scheme being unable to move another man. Cochran’s Alabama lived off that power. His teams controlled the because they controlled the trenches. Once he was gone, so was the force that created those players, and the draft numbers make the whole story hard to deny.

We didnt give Cochran enough credit for those teams. Saban never duplicated that degree of physical power and toughness anywhere at anytime without Cochran.

I bet you were first in line blaming Cochran for injuries.

Well this is definitely a lie. Cochran left in 2019. Alabama’s current strength coach was hired. Alabama has produced four first round picks on the OL since then. Including Booker just last year. Do
y’all just make this shite up as you go?

It is funny how a handful of posters never really contribute much until Bama loses and then they think this board is their therapist or something that they can vent all their frustrations that are clearly carry overs from their personal lives.

Like its a game played by college students(kinda). The game is over. Its Sunday, its Christmas time. Have a stiff drink and lighten up people

I mean we used to have legit coaches on the OL/DL.

Jeff Stoutland is one prime example. Dude is a big reason why Eagles have won two Super Bowls.

2 x Natty Winner. 2 x Super Bowl winner.

Major implications here. And hard truths. Is it Cochran - and not Saban - that's the GOAT? Should it be Cochran who has a statue outside of the stadium and the field named after him?

I'm not sure what the conditions are to ban someone, but it seems like the threshold is high given all the obvious trolls that hang around. Maybe the mods are told not to do it very often to keep site traffic flowing.

Didn’t Bama switch to lighter LBs to combat spread offenses?

I think this is a valid point. Football teams spend as much time together in the gym as they do at any other time. It's a place for bonding, working, building an identity, and achieving gains together. Now, I think Scott would be the first to tell you that everything about the success of Bama football began and ended with CNS, and I would agree,.... but you do have a valid point IMO.

Good example - Ronnie Coleman (Mr. Olympia for a decade) lifted in a garage gym in Texas with no air conditioning. The weights and machines were old... the kinda old that everything feels ten pounds heavier than it is. He forged a beast in that hell hole. It was primal. It was tough.

I think Scott definitely played a large role in convincing those teams they could run through brick walls.

It's called chemistry and every team has some form of it. The Saban/Cochran teams were just tough AF. Like beat yo MF arse down and take yo cornbread tough.

Reporter once asked Jon Allen about playing against LSU at LSU... With the most stone cold serious face possible he said,... "man, we will play them in the parking lot." That kinda tough is void this program now
