The leading indicator will be recruiting. First recruiting slips, then comes the decline.

Based on past years... stars on the roster. Bama is still the most talented team in the country. But, based on what's currently going on, that might be changing. Don't get mad, but this coming class may be the lowest ranked he has ever had at Bama. That starts to show year after next.

It may be the recruiting grind may take more of a toll than the on the field grind. If he stays long term, he will have to create some stability on the coaching staff to take some of the recruiting stress and travel stress off of him.

I still love the Swamptards who are convinced they know the inner workings of Nick’s mind because he was in Baton Rouge for 4-5 years.

I don't have a clue when he goes out but I'll mention one factor no one else has mentioned yet: getting to spend more time with the grandkids. Having two myself (3 year old grandson and a 5 year old granddaughter), it's a powerful pull to see them often.

He's earned the right to pretty stick around as long as he likes but I can see/understand the appeal of working part time of doing the half time show for FOX or ESPN or CBS and being paid 7 figures, spending time with his grandkids, and just enjoying his fabulous mansion in Florida. What's not to like about that?

My gut says he'll stick around 2-3 more years but who knows? Fact is, none of us on here know. If he did decide to hang it up after this year, I'd hate to see it but who am I or anyone. else on here to complain? He's guided Bama to maybe the greatest run in the history of college football.

And Chase Goodbread, Bama writer, was saying the same thing on Finebaum. But Chase is no Cecil Hurt - by many a mile.

I had thought about and discussed this.

The only thing he has left to accomplish is having the most NCs at Bama, as he is tied with the Bear.

I have no idea what drives the man. So, who knows?

He's welcome to stay until he falls dead on the sidelines fighting for 6-6 seasons into his 80s, IMO. He has earned it. We are already and have been for some time, playing with house money based on expectations when he was hired.

I don't think so after this year, now if next year's team goes 16-0. I think he might bow out after that.

He's doing what he loves. Think of it more like a hobby. People don't usually quit hunting, fishing, playing golf, etc. until they just can't do it at a level they enjoy any longer.

No offense but most people don't completely lose their sh*t while being involved with their "hobby". Moreover, most people don't put in 16-18 hour days 6-7 days a week on their "hobby".

Started hearing this during title runs starting around 2017. It will be true one of these years. Maybe this year, maybe not. I know for sure who doesn’t know when it will be though: Auburn fans.

I don't know when it will be, but it would be a GOAT move to do it after winning a title. Walk away on top.

No offense, but as someone who HATES to lose and is obsessive about his hobbies, I think I have a better understanding of Nick's drive than most.

He ain't doing it for money or fame.

No, not done. Saban loves the day to day grind of developing a team. He would not know what to do without it- and Mrs Terry would not know what to do with him.

No “maybe” about it. It is without question the greatest run in college football history. He’s done all of this from the greatest conference and likely the greatest division in history.

If he were at any other program, especially outside the South, he would be continually praised but since he is at “despised” Alabama in the “despicable” South, he and the program get faint praise.

Add that this is the most competitive and changing time in history and what he has done is one of the the most remarkable efforts if not the most remarkable in the history of American sports.

Not only has he had unparalleled success, along with a tremendous coaching tree, he has changed the face of the sport and its administration. But because it’s in the “dumb” South and “despised” Alabama, glowing acknowledgment is begrudging, like pulling teeth. In fact, it is sometimes criticized.

I get what you’re saying, but with NIL and the portal, you can fill gaps with PROVEN players, not some 18 year old kid that you hope develops. The game has changed.
