Yeah sometimes these downvotes are either dumbarse FOGS or trolls at this point. To be safely in the dance despite our flaws is not a disappointment

Before I say this, I don’t want this to be taken out of context. These players play very dumb, and to fix it, they make another dumb mistake to combat the first one. This team is talented but chemistry is lacking and my goodness the defense is atrocious.

JQ and Shack just aren’t vocal guys. That’s hurt the team. And now we have no confidence.

Just a pathetic jawb by Oates this season. Vandy is the worst football progrum in the SEC. They should not be beating us at Basketball

The problem is we don’t have any length on defense. Our Guards are all small and can’t guard anybody. Nimari Burnett and Josh Primo would have fixed all these problems. Oats counted on having both so he could “hide” JQ, JD, and Shack defensively and he got neither.

Offense is top 15 in the country scored over 80ppg and that’s with turning the ball over nonstop and Missing open shots nonstop.

Oats will learn and come back with a better group next year

100% truth. The rotation would be completely different with those two starting. And we'll see who is gone and who comes back, but the signing class plus Burnett will have us right back to where we were last year.

Lol why is this a thread

During football season, a new thread is created about Golding after virtually every 3rd and long converted against Bama.
We can tolerate ONE thread about the head coach of basketball.

I also think style of play is an issue. The “eye candy” offense is sexy and appealing to a lot of players, but sound, fundamental basketball wins.

yeah. I suggested last year on this board that it would be good to develop a low post game to complement the lights out 3 point game because some nights they're not going to fall.

We are headed to the "Big Dance" on a 3 game losing streak. Three losses when IMO showed no energy, effort or desire.

Lol nope. And the league champion this year doesn't play anything resembling the likes of what he described as "winning basketball."

Our offense is 12th in the country. We are tied with Kentucky for #1 in the SEC in scoring offense at 80ppg. And that’s with us being 270th in Turnover rate and 308th in 3pt shooting.

When will people get it through their heads that Offense isn’t the problem and it is 100% defense

Ok. You have convinced me it's 100% fault of the defense when the long range balls aren't falling, which often ends with a fast break or open shots at the opposite side of the court for the other team. It's almost like it affects the defense too.

I believe you and the stats, but it seems like the problem is that we can't score consistently in crunch time, or that seems to be the case every other game at least. Being a good scoring team for the first 30 minutes of the game is great, but they seem to have trouble finishing.

If we played better defense we would be burying teams and finishing games in the 1st 30 minutes like last years team did.

It will be Nate's fault if he doesn't clean house.

Oh he 100% will. I see 3 maybe 4 players returning. Plus the 5 new recruits and the 4 or 5 transfer additions

Even the great coaches have had bad teams occasionally in college basketball. Especially with how the NBA draft rules can leave great coaches in a complete rebuild unexpectedly.

It is concerning, though, that Oats had a team skilled enough to beat some of the opponents they beat but still end up going 1-and-done in both the SEC and NCAA tournaments (lets be honest, losing in the first round and finishing the season 0-4 is almost a mortal lock).

I'm willing to chalk this up to just a bad team much like what Bruce Pearl experienced last year across the state. He's a good coach but his pieces didn't fit last year. Still, I'm guarded about handing Oats the kind of trust you give to a legit great in the profession. 2022-2023 season looms large for Oats in my opinion. He needs a rebound season to avoid a stagnant or declining trend.

Bama is 9-10 since the beginning of the new year. Talent is there…coaching isn’t!

Oats hasn't had a great year. But if you think it's all on him, than that's pretty funny. There talent, but very flawed talent. Quin is careless and doesn't play D. Shack can't play D or run an offense, like a player his size should. JD is araw pg with terrible awareness and decision making. Gary regressed tremendously. Gurley was a busy. Frenchie can't get on the court for a reason beyond injuries. This is the most talented yet mistake ridden team I've ever cheered for. Oats had been bad at adjusting. But the players just don't seem to give a shite.

I don't see anyone in this team ready to make an NBA roster. JD will probably get drafted, but will be in the G league for awhile. Quin is a shoot first PG, who's only really good at slick layups. Shack has a nice shot, but 35% in college with limited size and athleticism won't get you to the league.

While not a great year for Oats, he did get us our first SEC title in 30 years, and is bringing in our best rated recruiting class ever. So he gets a pass for this season. He's still young, and will hopefully learn from this disappointing season. He needs to learn how to adjust in game and take timeouts when the team gets lost.

I think everything is the problem. Coaching, players, everything.

That doesn't mean it's time for a change, but it does mean that there is a lot of work to be done before next season.
