Who goes to the SEC championship game?

I know there's a lot of football left to play, and there's no guarantee that either team goes the rest of the way undefeated. Just trying to wrap my head around tie breakers.

I believe it goes to your SEC opponent's W/L record as the tiebreaker since we don't play each other

Since they have no head to head it’s going to go down to performance against the best opponent. Which will probably mean stacking up how bama and Texas did against Tennessee Mississippi state or LSU depending on which of them finish highest

Give it to Texas. That game is as useful as the titties on a turtle.

Yeah I’d much rather be sitting at home 11-1 and a probable top 4 seed anyway

Although I think Texas isn’t done losing yet

SEC Championship Game Predictor

You can predict all the remaining conference games and calculate the results. It's set to who they think will be favored in each matchup.

I went through it on Sunday only changing outcomes for Texas and us to see who would go if we both finished 11-1.

Texas would go in that scenario. Again, I didn't change any other games' outcome. For instance, right now the model has Tennessee beating Kentucky in Lexington. I think Kentucky wins that game.

If we make it, I hope we play backups.

Yeah, likely Texas would go if we both finish 11-1.

Tiebreaker would depend on whoever finishes ranked highest among unique conference wins:

Ole Miss (Texas)
Mizzou (Texas)
Florida (Texas)

Kentucky (Bama)

Im gonna say the two highest ranked SEC teams go to the conference championship. Right now in the AP Bama is one ahead.. However the Playoff poll would be used by then. All those W/L, SOS, head to head and other stats are already figured into the Playoff poll

We generally stand to lose more by playing in the SECCG. Hope we avoid it.

Yeah, beating Georgia to win the Championship game would be cool but finishing 11-1 and still getting to rest for the playoffs is an advantage there.

Conference Opponent Win % is the tiebreaker if same record.

Looking at our schedule vs Texas I gotta think it ends up being us. Don’t see our opponent win% being lower than theirs

UGA has yet to win a game in the 12 team playoff despite winning back to back SEC titles.

The responses here (and they aren't wrong) show why this game just needs to go away.

The only way I'd want to play in the SECCG is if we entered it undefeated. Having one loss and potentially coming out of it with two losses and how that would impact seeding in the playoff is a big deal.

100%. Almost to the point of thinking I’d prefer a second loss to having to play it. Not there, but crazy that’s a consideration. What a world.

Ending the SECCG would happen sooner if some of the following scenarios happened:
* A major player with a huge NFL career ahead has a career ending injury and sues.
* The team that has that injury has their chances to win in the playoffs diminishes significantly.
* Players start opting out of the game simply to avoid risk of injury.
* Teams already assured a playoff spot limp through game with back-ups like a major league baseball team who has already won the division.

I'm sure there are more scenarios I am not listing. For now the SEC is happy to line their pockets with profits motivated from greed rather than doing what is best for the teams they represent.

Honestly I hope it’s Texas. Let our guys get a week off and get ready for the playoffs.
Edit: I typed this without seeing everyone’s responses. I thought I might be the only one with this thought. I now see I’m not alone
