Recruiting has fundamentally changed now with the portal. Some teams are going to emphasize Jr/Sr portal additions of more proven players over a recruit. Given the recruit has fairly high chance of transferring before a significant return on investment. At least if you pay up for a jr/sr guy it’s an instant impact and lower risk.

Whoever lines up a top 5 class is going to have to pay up front for some busts and then again for the ones who live up to the hype. All that money won’t produce much “results” in the freshman season (few exceptions). If it was like the old days where you kept the guys for 4 years that’s one thing but now it would be a waste of resources to try to keep top level talent stacked up like we are used to having the last 15 years. If you had unlimited money then that’s fine but there may only be few schools willing to do that right now.


I think recruiting is going to matter a lot less in the years to come and it’s a Shame. Recruiting, player development, and seeing guys come of age was a lot of what made college ball special. Now it’s shifting to NFL lite

Some teams get forced to hire diversity coaches. Example would be the patriots recently. Others are told to draft one “for the team.”
