How is it that we looked like the best football team on the planet in the first half vs. Georgia?
Hell, we dominated Wisconsin, and made them look like a JV squad - in hindsight that was a really impressive win. Wisconsin is rolling with that same QB that we beat.
How did we go from looking head and shoulders better than everyone else, beating Georgia (who now looks like the best team in the country), to looking like a complete fricking dumpster fire with everything falling apart, and losing to Vanderbilt.
What the frick is going on?
I mean we can talk about the problems on the field, but how do you explain falling off a fricking cliff like this?

NIL, discipline, culture, Saban saw the writing on the wall. He would not have retired if he thought he could win with this group. Milroe is hot or cold and decision making under pressure shows. Throws mostly to one receiver one game and another the next (open or not). PENALTIES

I agree with all of your points, but the common denominator with this team and last years team is Milroe. His highs are very high, but his lows are pretty low. If Milroe had his A game Saturday, we beat Tennessee by 3 touchdowns

They also beat Western Kentucky 63-0 and looked dominant and crisp in every phase of the game. Not a landmark win, but WKU's only other loss is by one point at Boston College, so they're definitely a better team than the 3-4 USF squad that had a first and goal with a chance to tie the game with less than eight minutes to play.
They've been up and down, but recently just down. So down that it's tough to believe the team that played that first half against Georgia still exists.

Mental issue then? That's the only thing that explains it.

Milroe wants to be the leader the hero, he wants that Tua moment to win the National Championship he wants that Hurts moment to win the SEC.
He’s had a little taste of success and it’s probably gave him the ultimate high like he’s never had before and he wants more.
The only problem is that he doesn’t have command of the offense like Tua or Bryce or Hurts or Mac or AJ did. All these QB’s had that fearless quality a QB has to have and their teammates feed off of it.
With Milroe it just feels like it’s all about him, but when the camera zooms in on him he just has that uneasy nervousness in his eyes, like he’s scared of failing and it’s more important not making a mistake than just going out there and playing loose and confident and playing fearless.
There is nobody left to blame anymore, he’s already said he trusted the coaching staff and he felt like they trusted him at the beginning of the year. He had the job and he didn’t have to look over his shoulder anymore to be replaced if he made a mistake. It’s what he wanted and he finally got it and it’s looking like he can’t handle it and that’s nobody’s fault but his.

By now it’s painfully and patently obvious that #4 is a major limiting factor for the offense. I was hopeful that he would make significant strides in development over the offseason, but that has not happened.
With that said, it doesn’t explain or excuse the lack of discipline and toughness that defines this team, and you could really say this program because it is just a carryover from the previous few seasons.
CKD brought a new, softer approach to coaching the football team. Once a coach, parent or leader of any sort loses control and/or respect of those being led, it is very difficult getting it back. How far along the loss of control/respect continuum is DeBoer and this staff? Hard to say right now but the answer will become clearer in the months ahead.

If Saban thought he could win another natty with this squad, don't you think he'd stayed?
He obviously still has gas in the tank.
So, if Saban didn't think he could win a title with this group, how in the hell is DeBoer supposed to?
Let DeBoer clean it up and get a group of his guys in there.

All of this, but also with this group, we don’t have anything close to the player leadership that all of CNS’s great teams (and really just most of his teams in general) had. Our guys this year, and the past few years, have said the right things to the camera and interviewers, but it’s really just all talk. There have been plenty of opportunities the past two years and I have yet to see a single player get in someone’s face demanding any sort of accountability. We’ve had a lot savages in the Saban era who would damn near get in fights with each other on the sideline because someone wasn’t doing their job or they were being a detriment to the TEAM in some way. Rolando, Javier, Ingram, Hightower, Julio, Maze, Barron, AJ, Barrett Jones, Jon Allen, A’Shawn, I could go on.. these guys played like they had something to prove.
This group we have now, on the other hand, prefers dancing in the end zone after scoring when we’re down, kicking balls away from the ref when we’re losing and the game is in hand, talking shite to the other teams’ captains at the coin toss, etc.. the list goes on. The guys we have now act and play like they are just there to have fun and/or promote their own personal brand. There seems to be very little accountability across the board with this 2024 group.
When you no longer have coaches who will crack the whip (for better or for worse), and then you compound that with a roster that lacks leaders willing to hold themselves and the rest accountable, the way the season has played out is not all that surprising.
Wommack/DeBoer trying to pull MM13 out of the game at the end of the Vandy game was incredibly eye opening. Moore basically giving the coaches the bird, and then everyone - coaches and players alike - just kind of put their hands in their pockets and looked at the ground as if everyone was hoping his tantrum would just blow over and everyone would be spared from having to deal with it. It’s disappointing that is the moment that sticks out most to me this season - it was utter weakness at multiple levels of this team on display.

Perfect storm of the new coaching staff along with the NIL entitlement era kicking into overdrive.

Just remember, there's nothing on the field that they're not coaching. LOL

The same reason Jalen Hurts and Blake Sims fell off?…. More tape = More of a chance to figure out how to counter someone
Our offense is incredibly inefficient, it’s just getting worse because everyone and their extended family knows how to counter our offense. The second half of Georgia was laughably bad
Our defense is in a transition year and very green in the backfield. So couple that with the offense and now you’ve got a tired, generic defense with poor playcalling being put in a position to carry
Leadership wise it’s just a clown show at this point. Milroe’s too busy staring at the stars and half the team is focused on being in the limelight without anyone checking them back down to earth

I am convinced it is Weed, a coach who wants to be their friend, and the sense of entitlement many have regarding NIL

I think this is well put. There doesn't seem to be any real leadership. When things go wrong, it's like we don't know what to do and Milroe goes into a shell.

They have nothing to hunger for. They are already getting money for doing nothing and in some cases big money. Before they had to prove themselves to make it to the league and make money.

If I can sit in my couch and tell you what offensive play they are going run, I guarantee you the mlb and coach know. We are limited with #4.

Be honest. Is this team really that much different from last year's? Milroe is who he is and that was never going to change signficantly, the o line is inconsistent. Secondary was better last year for sure but that's about it.
First half of the Georgia game showed us the team's potential but that half of football is an outlier. We had new schemes that no one had seen us run. Now they have and have adjusted to it and we don't have an answer and certainly don't have the discipline. Pretty straight forward.

Might as well lock the topic because the rest of it should be people agreeing with you.

Their starting QB went out with a knee injury on the first drive of the game. They were promptly moving right down the field before that. The sub came in off the bench unprepared and it showed.
South Florida had receivers running wide open and the QB couldn’t connect.
Alabama out-schemed Georgia in the 1st half. The second half was a more normal reflection of who these teams are. Also Kirby and staff laid the blueprint for neutralizing Milroe’s threat running. Milroe averaged over 5 yards per rush through the Georgia game. He’s averaged 1.5 since then.
I also believe Bama spent a lot of time preparing for Georgia and “peaked” in the 1st half.
