Ladies and gentlemen, I present the face of "today's college football" for your consideration. Ya really think these people have their eyes on the prize anymore? I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry. But in this case I will only laugh.

NIL!
Because I enjoy tweaking folks like you. The better question is, why are YOU still reading and responding to them?

I thought we were tougher than Auburn Saturday. They just defended us perfectly with more athletic guards and made a bunch of tough 2s and 3s while we were missing close 2s. They played like shite last night, too, only they weren't facing an offensive buzzsaw like we were.

How many more performances like the last two will it take for reality to set in?
Let me ask the board's opinion on something. How many of you think there will be meaningful and enforceable "guardrails" put in place for NIL? Because I do NOT believe there will be, EVER.

Allow me to put this thing is a little perspective. When the concept of "NIL" began, it was an acronym for "Name, Image and Likeness". Well, that concept is the most loosely used term in existence now. NIL is nothing more than pay-for-play, and Nick Saban saw this and predicted it basically from the get-go.

The federal courts opened the door for this fiasco, and now the toothpaste is out of the tube. You know what they say about getting it back in, right?
I can tell you this much. Some serious followers of the NFL game don't think the current "NIL" system will be "fixed". College ball is now (semi?) pro ball. And chances are, it ain't going back.

Previously I posted that I have zero rooting interest in college ball now because all it is is professional athletes playing with your favorite jersey and helmet on. And there are almost zero limitations to the free agency from year-to-year. For me, the fun is long gone. And I made the prediction that more and more fans of college teams would become former fans. And I fully expect to be right on this one as well. It will be a slow bleed. I just chose to be an early adopter.

Folks can't stand the fact that I rightly called the team soft when I posted that Auburn would "out-tough" the Tide.

Banning me for telling the truth isn't going to solve the problem. But banning me isn't going to bother me one iota, either.

Welp! (again)

“This IS Alabama basketball!”
Good luck to them holding the interest of the remaining fans of "college" sports.

But I did say that Auburn and UT would likely “out-tough” Bama, and Auburn did today.

This is not rocket science, folks. Nate Oats is a very good coach. But his teams are “finesse”, meaning they rely on being able to out-run and out-shoot the opposition. Great coaches with very good (and tough) players can usually beat finesse teams by controlling the tempo and being physical with them. I don’t watch the games so I can’t say why Bama lost today. But my guess is that pretty much what I outlined here is what occurred.

As long as Oats is the coach, this is basically the type of team you can expect. Just look at the physical stature of most of the players. Most of them are a bad matchup for physical teams. And it takes physicality to win national titles. That goes for hoops and the pigskin.

Nope. Totally fine. You're just a jackass that literally contributes nothing beneficial to the board.

Except forecasting the future using the results of the past. Not rocket science.

The pain is palpable.

Our tackles were both slow off the ball because they were too fat.

Pritchett might not have been good, but as OLs go he actually looked pretty good physically. The other OT, not so much. And considering that he’s out with injury for workouts and spring ball, I’m expecting more of the same from him in 2025 if he even “earns” the job back. Or is earning a starting job at Alabama even a thing these days?

I will make a deal with the board. If the “best” (most talented?) team in school history goes 2-1 or 3-0 against Auburn and Tennessee in the stretch run, I will gladly admit I was wrong and ask for the mods to ban me.

Does that sound fair? :dunno:

Y’all may be hating my post even more in about 24 hours, considering this is the only home game of the three.

That CNO quote is for anyone who got PO-ed about my posting about the turnover thing recently.

I will add this......simply based on recent history, don't be surprised if Bama goes 0-3 against Auburn and UT in this stretch run. Those teams have a recent history of out-toughing the Tide in hoops, especially Tennessee. I'm not predicting it, but I am expecting it.
quote:

I never said that. What I was saying is I have no issue with grabbing 3 or 4 stars recruits like we are. Yes, they may get NIL, but they are definitely not getting what a 5 star is so for me to assume they would come in with a chip on their shoulder to prove they are just as good to increase their NIL is not farfetched. My response was to the other poster who seems to think the ship is sinking because we are not getting/spending what we need to get the 5 star and without them we will never win another NC again.

The proof will be in the pudding. The Eagles just won the Super Bowl because they simply overwhelmed the competition with waves of talented football players. Certainly, coaching is important but if you have mostly 2nd-level players across most of the roster, you are going to get 2nd-level results.

Again, go ahead and believe that that formula will work. I really don't care. DeBoer's Washington team had mostly 2nd-level players in 2023, and in the final game it showed. They had a few "elite" level guys like Penix, Odunze and an OL or two. But Michigan just out-talented them across the board.

I also said basically the same thing in the hoops thread the other day. You can get away with 12, 14, 17 turnovers per game some during the grind of the regular season. But when it REALLY counts, eventually those turnovers are going to equate to losses on the court. Championship teams don't play sloppily like that. Let's see what happens if Alabama has a bunch of TOs against Auburn and Tennessee in hoops in upcoming games.
quote:

I understand NIL, I embrace it now, and I'm at peace with it. One day, it'll get sorted out in a way that makes sense. But that shite right there? frick that, and frick the politicians who support it. I want my fricking earnings exempt from taxes too.

I think we all see the reasons for this and it has everything to do with trying to remain competitive in the recruiting game. Some states have no income tax so they are already a leg up on the rest. You often hear about pro athletes choosing their new team in free agency largely because the new team’s state has no tax.

Trump has been blathering about doing away with the federal income tax and replacing it with tariff revenues since the campaign. But anyone who really knows how things operate behind the scenes KNOWS that this will never happen.
