WTF is y'all's problem? We've got 18 football natties are are the reigning champs and ZERO Final Fours. Nobody wants to trade ALL of our football success for basketball success. And for you dumbass FOG's, it's not an either/or equation, you can have both. I, along with many other Alabama fans, who support and love football, happen to love basketball too, and many of us love every athletic team that puts on a Crimson jersey to represent our university and want them ALL to do well.

Yes, football is king, always has been, always will be. But this ain't the dark times, and Bama football is rolling and there's room for basketball success too. Those of you who don't want both, go check your mental capacity. You don't have to like basketball, but you should damn well want it to be successful, just as CNS has said he likes and wants a succesful hoops team. You don't think he won't take recruits to watch a game in Coleman when Bama is lighting it up? Success begets success. The more athletic programs that are successful, the more it helps attract athletes in all sports. We probably don't land Koolaid if the basketball team sucked.

I just don't get some of y'all who think if basketball or any other sport being successful somehow threatens the football program.

I thought it was a funny way of stating what a bitch notion it is for the fanbase to be bored with football to such a degree that they are now ready to trade football success for basketball success right in the midst of the greatest dynasty in the history of football.

Never said bored or anything remotely similar to that. But Bama football has huge staying power and Im confident that Ill see a few more football national championships in my lifetime. Cant say that about basketball. So if I could absolutely guarantee the experience of watching Bama win 6 straight games in the tournament and raising the banner, I would absolutely suffer through a few years of mediocre football. Its not like this dynasty is going to continue for the next 40 years

To openly declare a willingness to trade away what will be looked back on as the greatest dynasty in football history for basketball success is pure asinine

The title of the post literally says we can either win 1 NC next season, basketball or football.

So you translated that as trading away the greatest football dynasty in history? I think you've built a straw man so you can tear him down. Have a drink, don't be so tightly wound.

The OP's hypothetical premise is kinda silly, by implying Bama can't win a championship in both sports in the same year. But don't let that hinder silly debate about choosing only one.

Football.

There can never be enough football titles.

But, my life's dying wish remains to see Bama make a Final 4. That said, very proud of all this team accomplished in 2020-2021. Just came up short against a good UCLA team hitting their stride. That's the NCAA tourney for you.

I get terrible painful withdrawals when we don't win the football title. I suffer depression and irritability.

I dream of final fours and basketball championships, but I physically cannot tolerate non championship Football seasons.

Let's just hope for both. It's the only rational thing to do.

Surprised to see all the basketball responses. For me, it is 100% easy answer of football all day, everyday. Football means more to be than pretty much all the other sports combined.

But I enjoyed the basketball run and look forward to watching them play next year. Hoping softball and gymnastics do something great this year.

I’ve always been a football guy and football has always been my love, but a ship in basketball could change that program staying power for a long time. Another one in football changes nothing

Can you though? I understand you can have two very good programs in both football and basketball, but rarely can they both be elite at the same time. Florida is really the only athletic program to have accomplished that feat in the last 60 years. The only other football powers to do well in basketball since the NCAA tournament was established in 1939 are Michigan and Ohio State. Michigan won the tournament all the way back in 1989; for Ohio State you have to go back to 1960 to find the last time they won the tournament.

You're surprised that a lot of people would rather see something they have never seen than something they've already seen at least half a dozen times?

Basketball winning 5 in a row won't affect funding for my non revenue sport, or the others like it. It isn't in my best interest to pick shooty hoops success over run da bawl, paul.

Yes.

The reason it is rare is because being elite in a sport is rare. It's not that one sport takes away from the other. It's just the odds of being elite in two are long.

This is like those ignorant comments people make like, "Team X has never won a game on a Saturday after a cicada hatch." As though it's a predictor of what is probable.

I don’t know about that but it’s kind of wild seeing people argue about a hypothetical situation.

As long as it is hypothetical I’m going with win it all, every time, every year. Oh yeah and throw in mega millions for me too.
