Rushing defense really has me worried. I’ve done got spoiled on teams hitting a stone wall when they tried to run it up the middle on us. Now they are getting push and 3-4 yards easily

While I agree that we need to improve there, the days of consistently stuffing the run at the LOS are basically over. The defense is too spread out now. I mean back in 2011 we played most every game with 4 DBs and a fifth in long yardage. Now we have 5 or 6 out there on first down.

That changes week to week depending on the team. A lot of teams run the spread with mobile quarterbacks but Georgia is a power run team and if we had to play them right now, it would be ugly.

Someone tell me how giving up 31 to ole Miss today is any different than giving up 31 to Arkansas in 2018, orgiving up 24 and 400 yards to CSU in 2017, or giving up 43 to ole Miss and 30 to Arkansas in 2016, etc etc? Other than the fact that we didn't have half the defense as freshmen those seasons? They gave up some yards to a running qb they didn't have film on, because they are still seeing looks they haven't seen before and are still having to think. Plus they are playing 90 snaps in 100 degree heat every week, and the guys who would be our quality young players providing depth are all starting. They will get better, as all players do with experience. Half of our defense has 5 or fewer games under their belts.

That's not true. Tell that to Auburn, Missouri and Georgia. Some of us are simply in denial.

If Metchie catches that ball on 4th & 2, our stats look similar to Auburn's against MSU and we aren't having this conversation right now.

It doesn't. Which is precisely the painful point of it all. The middle of the defense we were worried about last season had Wilson and Moses and Q-man Williams manning the middle.

What it does do is give Bama fans a timeline of how long we have struggled to get our guys lined up and pointed in the right direction.

I see what you’re trying to say but you can’t play the if game. There are a thousand “if’s” that could change things. What is for certain is that he didn’t catch it and OM put up more points and yardage and our D couldn’t stop it.

ETA: The silver lining is that those points were against backups and they should have better experience facing adversity now.

It will improve. Charles Kelly will help Golding and let’s say Pruitt gets let go from UcheaT then that’s a huge improvement to get him on staff as a “defensive analyst”.

Kelly was the ST/LB coach at FSU under Jimbo in 2013 when they won the last BCS National Title

that miss was disappointing. We're going to need him next year. I guess I am just spoiled right now with the best wr corps in the nation. Those 4 guys don't miss many.

The drop by Metchie was disappointing because it was said that he catches everything thrown his way. We will need him going forward.

Not true.

I watched the defense play in confusion all day while getting pushed around and outran by supposed lesser athletes.

That's what happens when half of them are true freshmen and they are going up against an offense that is playing fast. They ran 88 plays yesterday. We ran 67. The heat, combined with the speed of the game, gassed and confused our defense. The whole point of that offensive style is confuse and catch the defense out of position.

Re-watched game. Front 7 is not good. All lb's look passive and slow. IMO they just do not have the potential to get way better.

Would also like to see #2 start at Rb. Hits hole twice as fast as our starters.

As most are saying we have to outscore mostof the rest of our opponents and that includes A&M

Hopefully by then we will have shored up our deficiencies.

Anyone else underwhelmed by Jobe’s play so far? I thought both he and Mayden would be pretty productive players this season.

I also think C.Harris had a better day than S.Lee. Lee seemed a step slower than he has shown so far.

Our running backs were good yesterday. I like Keilan too but Robinson and Harris were very good and had good numbers.

Yep our front is mainly is big slow guys who can’t pass rush. And the sad thing is they can’t even stop the run.

And yet the guy that did start averaged right at TWICE the ypc as #2 yesterday. Almost like the coaches value actual production instead of subjective measures.
