...over the next few weeks?

Today was a piss poor showing against a freshman QB who isn’t a good passer and basically ran 3 plays.

This is the softest Bama defense up the middle I can remember. They also don’t have great speed, don’t generate turnovers, and can’t set the edge.

Auburn may run for 300 yards.
Actually...holding them to 250 would be huge.

If Pruitt would hurry up and get fired so he can rejoin the staff they would probably improve a lot.

That would be fine with me.

Auburn and LSU will score over 30 each on this defense. I don't look forward to either game.

I’ll be surprised if Bama holds either team under 40.

Just like last year, I don’t expect much. It’s 5 games in, we’ve got our defense and our personnel by now. We may be surprised by some amazing game plans going forward, but our defense is what it is at this point....not very good. It’s worse than the 07 defense for worst in Saban’s tenure.

If, we are able to win vs LSU and Auburn at Jordan Hare it’ll be shootouts. It’s a new era of Bama defense, we have to get used to it. The 2011 defensive statistics may as well have been from 1911 at this point.

I’ve bitched maybe more than others, but i think it’s time I just stfu and accepted the new age.

At this point, this is overly optimistic and I'm jealous

I agree that this defense is in contention for the worst unit of Saban’s tenure.

2007 offense
2019 defense
2007-2019 fg kicking

If today showed us anything it's that a mobile QB will run all over us. Imagine a Hurts or a Fields going up against this D? Plumlee may be very mobile but he's no where near the level of those two. Lsu and Auburn are going to be tough. Even Mond might be a challenge.

Our defense gave up 500 yards to Ole Miss today. WTF ? Golding either needs to get it together or he needs to be demoted or something. That's unacceptable.

What’s scary is that if we get to the playoffs for a rematch with OU...,will Jalen absolutely bend us over this time around?

Lincoln Riley vs Pete Golding.....yikes

The defense has no fire in it's belly. McKinney and Jennings are the only true leaders right now. I miss the days of 2015-16 when that unit went out on the field with bad intentions. Our team looked disinterested and lost at times today. That's unsettling.

The good news is quite a bit of true freshmen are getting valuable game experience for the seasons going forward. The bad news is quite a bit of true freshmen are starting on the defensive side of the ball.

It's pretty bad that Bama's recruiting machine has missed so badly at DL and ILB, that Bama is being forced to use 4 true freshman in the front 7.

At least Bama will have plenty of experience on defense next year if they can get rid of the damn injury bug.

The only saving grace I can think of is that the defense played hard when it absolutely had to today. They got thrown through the ringer in the first quarter but then made adjustments and allowed our offense to take over the game. It was 45-10 before Ole Miss was able to effectively move the ball again. By then the game was over and done with.

I agree with that. They made stops in the second and third quarters to help get the lead. Can they improve and get off the field going forward ?

Im usually viewing through crimson colored glasses so....take it with a grain of salt (last cliche)

I don't think this is the same defense we will see in a month. Alot has been put on some young players. Great that v this is a 2 bye week yr. True Freshmen need the break. But...Bama also has Allen Lewis returning from Season ending injuries and basically they have played 4 ...5 more games in their carrers as ...DJ Dale. I think that the D will progress with some more confidence in the next 3 weeks. What i do worry about is freshman getting tired in late Nov.

Eta...i think to expect the defensive numbers of past yrs is a bit unrealistic. Bamas offensive production can be "blamed" in two ways 1) the defense is back on the field after 4 play 2 min TD drives...yay for the TD though. 2) opponents know they have to score bunches and to have a shot seem to be more willing to go for it on 4th and 3 or 4. Converting a couple of those adds to the # of plays and the fatigue ....mental errors.

So you don't like when our team is challenged? I love it. It's exciting. Warts and all.

They're still keeping it simple so the younger guys can play faster. More of the playbook will be added as the year goes on.

Besides a muffed return by Waddle that set them up in the 20 and 2 garbage TDs at the end, there weren't really any drives.
Their offense was basically QB scrambles from a QB Bama didn't know much about.

But please, don't let that get in the way of the chicken littles panicking.

I came here expecting hyperbole and overreaction. I wasn't disappointed.
Never change Bama fans.
