Surely you understand the difference between a fan on a message board expressing their opinion in a post and the father of a high profile player going public with his thoughts with a reporter. We both have the right but that doesn’t mean we have the same responsibilities.

I watched Saban's presser on YouTube and he was asked about this.....in typical Saban speak he basically said he spoke with Jalen, his family, etc. and that everyone wants whats best etc. etc. He communicates with the player and the family and doesn't care about what some reporter wrote. Jalen's dad made that comment and that makes me wonder if he didn't like the answers he got from Nick.

It's certainly possible.

Bottom line is no one knows what's gonna happen until it happens. I agree that Jalen might be best served leaving as a grad transfer...He's needed this year

I'd love for Jalen to stay but I don't blame him if he decides to leave. Say Tua starts and gets pulled at halftime because we are blowing the other team out. Who comes in, Jalen or Mac? Jalen would want to come in but Mac needs the experience, especially since the writing will be on the wall with Jalen.

If I were in Saban's shoes, even if I already knew for sure Jalen would grad transfer after the season, I'd give the vast majority of those snaps to my best backup QB which would be Jalen. I'd want him to keep improving by playing, in case Tua got injured. I'd only give the last couple of series to my 3rd string guy. Mac is only a redshirt freshman; he's got four seasons of eligibility.

Hoping Jalen gets the warm reception he deserves on Saturday. He's given us a lot of great moments over the past two years.

My apologies for my earlier comment. I read that as your own post. I didn't realize you were quoting. I admittedly have serious fatigue when it comes to comments like that after this season. But this one's on me gang. My bad.

Is he really though? People keep saying this, but what position?? LB? Safety? TE?

He wouldn't crack the 2-deep at either running back or receiver

I don't see why he couldn't. He has the strength and speed needed to play many positions. He's obviously an extremely hard worker and would do what it takes to learn a new position and be successful at it.

I don't know what position, but I would think TE as a minimum.

And this just proves what many of us already knew. Jalen is not a team player, Jalen is all about Jalen. There are more than one reasons he lost the locker room. His ability and his attitude for starters.

All you have to do is watch Jalen's reaction to the winning TD pass to know that this comment...whoever said it...is pure stupidity.

Hurts initial reaction showed more joy and celebration than Tua did.

He'd be a dumbass if he wanted to play behind Tua for his remaining years of eligibility when he can easily start for a majority of D-1 programs

This is not true at all. If the cold reality is that Hurts' best chance of playing in the NFL is to get on the field at a different position, Alabama is the best place to make that happen. What about that is being a dumbass?

At 6'2 218 he is nowhere close to TE size either length or weight

His shot would probably be moving to the defense as a coverage LB/S hybrid

Yeah, well, maybe you should have read all the replies to the guy's tweet that basically called him an effing moron.

I don't see a position that he could switch to where he would suddenly be a pro prospect.

Suddenly? Probably not. After two years? A better shot than at QB. And we would then probably be talking about staying all four years.

I'm no expert, but 6'2 doesn't seem too far off. Below average I'm guessing, but he's plenty strong enough to be a blocker, and also has the speed and agility to contribute big in the passing game, assuming he has good hands.

But I don't know. I normally avoid these types of discussions, just seems like he's the type that could adapt to another position and succeed at it.

Side note: Surprised nobody said he wouldn't know what a TE was. I suppose that's a good thing considering this place in December.

I would think he is 3-4" too short and about 30-40 lbs underweight to be an NFL tight end.

Saban was asked this morning on wjox about the story. Saban said, look I have a good relationship with the player and his parents. I will trust what I know about the player more than any news story.
