To me, Jalen doesn't have a career in the pros. I think the best play for him is to find another way to contribute to the team and remain at Alabama. He will be a beloved figure who would be offered opportunities in this state for the rest of his life. I think the fans genuinely respect him and don't want to see him go.

Of course this is easy for me to say because I'm not Jalen Hurts, who has been a QB his whole life, put in the hard work to be a QB, had dreams of being a QB at all levels, and was the starting QB for two years at Alabama.

I think Jalen's best option is to either redshirt this year or the next year, wait for Tua to go pro as a Junior, and then start again as a RS Senior

Is he really though? People keep saying this, but what position?? LB? Safety? TE?

He wouldn't crack the 2-deep at either running back or receiver

Pretty much, strong as frick, breakaway speed, and even though we are talking about non-qb positions, I'll mention that he has a pretty damn strong arm. What's not freakish about that?

2 deep? Maybe so, maybe not.

Dumb statement by dad. Shows a self-centered attitude right out in the open and basically publicly tells the coach, "If my kid doesn't start, we'll take our ball and go home."

You can feel this was privately, but it is in quite bad form to express it publicly like that. Saban is not going to be held hostage to a player of a player's parent. Bet coach is pissed.

The best part about fans is how they feel they have a right to am opinion and the right to express it constantly and loudly, but players, coaches, parents, etc do not have that same right.

I just don't see any way he can beat out Tua. He could win the starting job by default with an injury, but I dont see him making a big enough leap to pass Tua. That's assuming Tua doesn't improve.

Think Braxton Miller he trained specifically to play a new position and did well at it. If Jalen trains for a new position he could too be good at it. But if coaches yells across the field for Jalen to jump in the line with the receivers it may not be as good.

I don't give a crap about anyone expressing themselves... that is the point.

The hypocrisy is when those who feel they have a right to express their opinions get mad when other exercise their God given right.

Imo, the BR article is worth reading, but the debating and speculating about Bama's QBs is silly. It's a no brainer. Tua should be the #1 QB this season. But I do think Jaylen could and should still play a lot too, especially closing out games. Imo, Jalen shouldn't transfer before this season. He's on track to graduate in December, enabling him to grad transfer then without sitting out a year.

If Jaylen is dead set on wanting to be an NFL QB, the smart move for him is to stay and play the role of 2nd half closer this season. He'll benefit from Enos' coaching and get enough in game reps to improve in the areas he needs to. He could get about 1/3 of the snaps. Also, Tua may get injured. Transferring before the season and sitting out for a year wouldn't help him develop and might even be detrimental.

He'll graduate in December and can grad transfer somewhere that he can be the starter -- such as Arizona with Sumlin, TCU, Nebraska, etc. Sumlin has a close relationship with Jaylen and his dad. There's bound to be a good grad transfer landing spot somewhere after this season, and he'd go in January so he'd be there for spring practice.

If Jalen or his dad let emotions lead them to him transfering before the 2018 season, that would be foolish, imo.

He might as well grad transfer at the end of this season.

Doing it any earlier will only hurt him. Anyways, I'm sure Saban will let bait him to stay so he at lest completes this season with us.

If he transfers he should go play for Kiffin and I am totally serious. Lane recruited him and if he can't turn Jalen into a quarterback then no one can.

Jalen is gone! He'll end up at either FAU with Lane or at Arizona with Sumlin.

I disagree. Your statement might be valid at any other position other than QB. For Jalen's future at QB it's best if he transfers. I think Jalen is gone after the Spring semester.

this is no big deal

his dad stated the obvious, who cares

the fact that he's coming back and competing for the job now says it all. That's doing the right thing. If he wants to leave later, all good. He's given us his best.

Nick Saban responds to article on potential Jalen Hurts transfer (BamaOnLine)
quote:

An Alabama quarterback was in the headlines Thursday. But not because of how he performed on the field or in the form of an injury report.

The father of Jalen Hurts spoke with Bleacher Report and shared some thoughts on Hurts’ being replaced by then-freshman Tua Tagovailoa during the national championship game and what would happen if he continued to watch his teammate from the sideline.

With that headline leading the college football discussion Thursday, Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban was asked about it following Alabama’s 14th practice session of the spring.

“I had a meeting with Jalen’s dad on Saturday after the scrimmage, and it was a very positive meeting,” Saban said in a press conference. “I think we all want the same thing for all players that compete on our team, regardless of the position. And even though there’s going to be a significant effort on a lot of folks’ part -- none in this room, obviously -- who want to make this a very public thing, but it’s going to be handled in a very private manner, aight.

“And in conversation, I was very positive and upbeat. Jalen has done a great job. He’s made a significant amount of improvement. His dad was very positive. But I think at the end of the day, everybody has career decisions that they’ll have to make. Nobody knows what the outcome of this situation is going to bring for us. We don’t want any players, aight, not to be able to fulfill their goals and aspirations in our program here. We don’t want that for any of our players.

“And Jalen’s dad has always been very, very positive and supportive in every conversation that I had. So, I’m not really concerned about what somebody else chose to write because I’m going to always sort of use the personal communication that I have with our player, Jalen, and his family when necessary. And I have a lot of trust and respect for those folks, and I don’t think there’s an issue or problem from my standpoint.”

The rest of the article is pretty much a rehash of what the BR article reported.

I watched Saban's presser on YouTube and he was asked about this.....in typical Saban speak he basically said he spoke with Jalen, his family, etc. and that everyone wants whats best etc. etc. He communicates with the player and the family and doesn't care about what some reporter wrote.

Jalen's dad made that comment and that makes me wonder if he didn't like the answers he got from Nick.
