I highly doubt Oats would move when his youngest daughter is entering high school this fall.

As a military kid, I always chuckle when I think of parents who would give schooling a single thought when it comes to uprooting everything at a moment's notice. I said I'm not bitter.

We’ll soon find out. I agree, out of all of the blueboods, that’s the one I could see Oats jump to.

The only job I could see him leaving is if he wants to try the NBA.

FWIW, Oats made a video signing a basketball that will be raffled off for fans in Chicago who join Yea Alabama.

And I get that it doesn’t take a ton of effort to sign a basketball and make a video, but he’s clearly locked in on the future success of the program if it’s something he’s bothering with at all.

For those without Twitter(which should be everyone).

Nate Oats on UNC job: "I'm not a guy that's always trying to jump around ... I love Alabama. My girls love Alabama. ... [Alabama] is doing everything we can to make sure we've got a competitive program. As long as we're able to compete to win championships here ... I'd love to be the coach to bring us our first national championship.

"To me, there's absolutely no reason to leave here. ... I'm not a guy that's looking to get out of here any time soon."

This is going to be key. There are obviously tiers in the NIL spending and we aren’t in the first tier. He has to believe he can cut down the nets here and be able to get the players to do so. Just hope we aren’t completely outclassed by Michigan tomorrow night

Nate Oats on why he hasn’t signed a contract extension yet: “When my salary goes up a half-million dollars every year, do you know how long it would take me to make a half-million dollars at Romulus? I’m not asking them to re-do the contract every year.”

“We’ve had some discussions. It’s probably close, we’ll see where it takes us. I’m not looking to leave. They don’t need to be in a rush to re-do a good contract.”

Oats seems like such a based dude. He's in it for the right reasons. Foes love to act like he's a big piece of shite, but in actuality he's a really solid guy who cares about his players, the school, and the game. He's not some paper chasing whore like many coaches out there.

I think he’s become my favorite coach of any sport at any time just because of how he handles his business.

For me, he’s at least tied with that guy that’s on ESPN on Saturday mornings in the fall.

The worst thing Oats is guilty of is having occasional bouts of foot-in-mouth disease. It's wild to me that he gets raked over the coals for the actions of his players while you have guys like Golden, Pitino, Beard, etc. getting a pass for being pure fricking garbage as humans. I'm pretty convinced that it was the racist stuff instead of the psychotic abuse that effectively ended Gregg Marshall.

My son and I ran into Oats on the riverwalk in Tampa when he was walking with his lady. I couldn't help myself and had to ask if my son could get a picture with him. Nate was the nicest person, gracious, and took time to ask my son tons of questions about his college experience and plans afterwards. We were already fans, but now its different.

Oats says there are discussions ongoing about a new contract. Byrne just needs to do his job (which he has) and take care of him. It used to be Saban, but Oats is now the top dog on campus. Give him whatever he wants.

https://www.al.com/alabamabasketball/2026/03/where-nate-oats-contract-talks-stand-ahead-of-sweet-16.html

quote:

Nate Oats and his rep have had “discussions” with the University of Alabama about a new contract, the Alabama basketball coach said Thursday.

Oats, however, said “I don’t have an offer in hand.”

quote:

“We’ve had discussions,” Oats said. “I’m open to redoing (the contract). But I’m not really looking to leave. I’m pretty honest with them. If they come up with one that makes sense to do, it’s good. I’d love to stay there.”

quote:

Oats then added “it’s probably getting close.”

“We’ll see where it takes us,” Oats said.

quote:

He affirmed multiple times he is not looking to leave.

“I feel like I’m probably too honest with everybody, includes you guys in the media, and sometimes you use it against me, which is fine,” Oats said. “I’m going to be honest, I’m going to tell you what I’m thinking. I’m probably too honest with the administration. I’m not looking to leave. They don’t need to be in a huge rush to fix a really good contract that I’ve got right now.”

That’s also the very refreshing part about Oats is he doesn’t do coach speak, doesn’t politic. He’s as straight a shooter as over ever seen in professional coaching so you never feel this sense of worry that it might all be bullshite.

One of the quotes from Oats was that he hoped to retire working for Byrne. Sounds like they have a great working relationship

UNC 'insiders' are regurgitating this lie that he expressed interest in their job but "they don't want him" lol. Spoken liken a broken fan base trying to justify why a big name HC doesn't want to coach there.
